Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Is IBM Expert labs organization dying?

A lot of struggle these days in the IBM Expert Labs organization. Work is less and less every year, it does not seem like they will survive another year.

Comments?

Tell me one thing that is not overpriced these days at IBM?

@rn I’ve had good luck with both TEL and BPs for the products I sell. As others have mentioned, TEL is overpriced so customers will not always take that route. As for best places to work in IBM, you’re kidding yourself if you think any place in this company is good. You may have a room in the upper decks of the Titanic, but the ship is still sinking.

EL is still the best place to work at IBM, along with EC. I would not work anywhere else. We are short of people and to be frank the BPs are not up to the tasks in most occasions. Very often, I have had to go rescue a BP.

@g1 like @cs mentioned - what or how exactly have they (you) generated this profit on? Which projects?

@h6 Look at what you just wrote and tell me how that makes sense to you. You're blaming sellers for not selling software that the industries all know is garbage. You sound exactly like Rob Thomas.

@h5
Most IBM software is mediocre, designed by mediocre people. Based on my 30+ experience, when the software is good, sales people are good at advocating it for customers.

@h5 you make a good point, IBM software these days mostly su-k and is probably too expensive. Still, this is the role of a Sales organization to sell!

@g3 yeah it must be Tech Sales fault that our products s u c k and customers don’t want to buy them.

Tech Sales pretty much across the board failed to meet their numbers for 2Q.
Time for them to take their thumbs out of their a-s and start delivering results!

Expert Labs exceeded their targets in 2Q. Just saying...

@cs Expert Labs is actually profitable. 10+ years ago, when Steve Mills was still around, they only needed to cover their costs. But since then, they have made a decent amount of money for IBM.

If Expert Labs goes away, which team(s) is/are going to provide services to the customer? Here, I am talking about the short term type of services... obviously not what IBM Consulting does?

I am in Expert Labs, and I work with Tech Sales folks all the time. These two ORGs work well together.

@bh the reason partners are used has nothing to do with skill. IBM doesnt want to hire more people and partners get the work.

@cs you should leave.

@bd can you point to any success that they have had? Not the bullsh-t hype they tell us - actual ROI that justifies their existence? Actual money they generated (revenue) for IBM?

TEL is missing deep expertise at scale that is worth their day rates, so they involve partners to do the expert work.
So why not go directly to the partners and save the markup…

So, just curious here... only negative comments... What org/dept are you guys in to hate Expert Labs so much? And for the record, I am not in Expert Labs, I am in Tech Sales.

@aj They are Experts In Bullshi--ing !

But the clients have started to get wise about them, and stopped using them.
