Is anyone just waiting to be laid off when you reach 62 ish? At my age, and being so close to retirement, that fat severance after a long career doesn't seem too bad. Just feel as if I am playing the game.

@208 I am just 30. Can keep it up all day, np thank you
@33j So proud of you! This is the way. Let’s pile all those EEOC complaints up. If you’ve been discriminated or retaliated against in any of these ways: Age, Race, Disability/FMLA, etc., get a lawyer and file an EEOC complaint asap. This way their fraudulently applied mandatory arbitration is circumvented. Evil company!
The company quietly revised their severance formulas sometime in the past 5-6 years, so you may want to check before counting on a "fat severance."
Not really a surprise that the same company that reduced its 401K match earlier this year is getting cheap on severance too.
@31p I'll tell you one thing for sure, If they don't stick to their published guidelines for severance packages and try to low ball me with less, I would have absolutely NO INCENTIVE to take their pittance and walk away with signed promises not to sue. Being over 60, I would ABSOLUTELY file an EEOC and hire an attorney.
@xt File an EEOC Complaint ASAP! Because this disgusting company uses mandatory arbitration and hides it from those who worked for them before this, the best course of action is to file an EEOC complaint. This way they can pile up and then the govt can come after them. The mandatory arbitration bullsh** is moot when case is filed by a govt entity! If you file in court it’s much harder.
UHG allows rule 55 of IRS to withdraw from 401(k) at age 55 or later for current employees who quit or let go. There is no penalty.
@1g7 aren’t you too old to lame
@e3 aren't you too old to get laid? Viagra?
@16x 70.. what TF. They need to quit n pave way to the new generation. Selfish boomers
@xt I have team members I work with currently who are ages 69 and 70. We haven’t been impacted yet but I guess there’s always a first time.
If you consider what UHG gives as severance as Fat at 62, you didn't prepare well enough. Don't let them have any power over you.
@mh I was in OI, for many years, can’t give too much detail cause this site has HR trolling. Many people recently laid off got very bad packages. Look at the one that just shared 4 weeks for 8 years, level 28. Don’t trust Sparq! Level 26 coworker got 2 weeks for 3 years.
@mh I worked here since 2015, they used to give you 2 weeks per year and keep your medical insurance. Everyone I know that was recently laid off got 6 weeks or less, no insurance. Don’t trust sparq. Only people with somewhat decent packages are the horrible people managers.
@ez This isn’t about PIP, they gave me a trash package too and I wasn’t on PIP. 6 weeks for 9 years lol. Grade 29. They offer whatever they feel like that date but I also think they are strapped for cash. They did have enough money to keep bullies and to pay for that 250 event. Disgusting company.
@xt Change healthcare has many bullies over 55 and even over 60. There’s a man in OI that stole peoples work, has no skills but us 75, still working there. Read the first comment that shows who they discriminate against. They lay off people of color who are in their 30s, 40s, they layoff disabled people too, and those returning from FMLA. Some even get placed on PIPs then fired, for speaking up against injustice. It’s not about age, it’s about integrity. You have to be an evil, demonic shyster to keep your job here. Go and file an EEOC complaint so they can pile up. Hire an attorney, don’t file yourself. Good luck 🍀👍
I was laid off as an GL 28 manager and I’m 65. This company highly discriminates based on age. Anyone over 60 should be concerned. I’d like to see a discrimination lawsuit filed as a group.
@qf the onesie know about got what was in the policy. I'm so sorry if that didn't happen for you.
@qf Again, that can get them into a lot of trouble if they are handling severance in an arbitrary manner. It needs to be reported to your state's DOL if it contradicts published schedules.
@mh the severance doesn’t match sparq. They put that on sparq to disarm the people still there. Those of us who were laid off got trash packages: 6 weeks for 8 years. Another got 4 weeks for 8 years. Don’t believe that trash on Sparq.
@j9 whoa this is crazy! Sorry to hear this
@j9 What division were you in that your severance was different than the Sparq policy for your year of experience and grade? Just curious as we haven't seen that in OI.
@ev This is so true!
@j9 what's your GL level
@e5 Sparq is fake. Several recent layoffs including mine gave 2-6 weeks of pay, unless you are a mgr of people. I got 6 weeks for 9 years 😆 Trash!
@g3 Severance is now between 2 and 6 weeks, unless you are a mgr with direct reports! Ask all of us who are laid off lol. No 26 weeks!
@aa OI still has several people over 55. Especially Change Healthcare. The caviat to not being laid off is being a bully in management. Another OI group still has a 75 year old. No skills but stole peoples work and presented as is. You will be discriminated against at UHG for whatever reason, if you are ethical and a high performer.
@bf you are wrong. Lol
@OP BTW, my severance would be about 26 weeks. Worth a layoff.
@fh gas light much?
@ey lol you sound like you’re 12
@ex yeah that's what I thought. But my colleague did confirm he only got 4 weeks. Now I am not sure if he was on PIP etc. can someone recently laid off clarify if their severance matched what's published on sparq or not?
@e9 stop this Christian nonsense.. this is a layoff forum, not s church group
@ev Hmmm. That sure sounds like a wide open door to a discrimination claim. I don't think they would publish a schedule of severance based on salary grade and years of service if it were that discretionary/discriminatory.
@e5 the policy is not set in stone and it's not an agreement. Each layoff has it's term, look at your employment contract you signed. Severance is purely discretionary, not sure how they decide, some get more, some less. My colleague only got 4 weeks. He's been here 8+ years. Grade 28 I believe.
@a1 If all this that you said is true, God sees it and will judge each of those individuals partaking in that behavior and He will either judge them in this life or eternity or both. Or He may choose to convert and save them, in which case we should be glad for that as well…even more so.
@c3 severance is based on salary grade and years of employment. The policy is on Sparq.
I’m 66 want to make it thru next year after that would love to be laid
25-30 years of service is six months severance
@ba where did I say tired in my comment? I said exhausted. And if you look up the definition of exhausted, it is not the same thing. Mental health is a real issue. Thank you.
@bf actually its not look at the requirements and ask yourself if what you said is correct
