We have too many people between a task's start and its finish. Too many people get in the way of completing anything in a timely manner. I swear, it's almost Kafkaesque at this point. Removing several layers of middle management would improve the workflow immensely. Sadly, I know it's not going to happen.

Middle management actually used to be pretty useful. Then Shart came along and doesn't allow anyone to actually manage anymore. Every decision of any significance must be run through the OC or maybe 1 level below. You can't even hit the restroom without approval from the top anymore. It's ridiculous how much centralization of authority has happened. I don't care what your title is, it's irrelevant unless you're OC or close to it. You have no real authority. Not anymore.
Only if you wake up and discover your coworker has turned into a giant insect, or become obsessed with a new uniform.
@ds
I bet I know what chubster you are talking about.
Delete the word "middle" in your title - - - - - there, fixed it for ya !
@aj
Yup, that went well.
Look higher than the middle manager… many executives could go and won’t be missed.
Consider the scenario of having a lead compliance officer who previously held a “manager” position, consistently obstructing progress. This individual contributes minimally to the workload and excels in procrastination. They express dissatisfaction with any new initiatives and struggle to utilize a spreadsheet effectively, even with the assistance of co-pilot. Is this the kind of hierarchical structure you are referring to?
It's like the mafia.
@am I would rather it be like that then see someone lose their job must have lots of time there shoe on the other foot you feel different
@aj span-of-control was being touted nearly a decade ago when Charlie first showed up. It should have already been replaced with at least 2 different operating ideologies, by now.
Kind of like dealing with all of the necessary approvals for a change record that's needed for a production release.
that's the entire premise behind span-of-control... it is meant to de-layer the org
Waaaaay too many and their salaries are far more than the lower level being laid off. I once had 5 layers of managers that needed to make a decision before anything could happen. After layer 2, they had no idea what projects were even in the works but needed to be important so everything stalled because they are also "so busy, calendar is always blocked."
Middle manager here. Leave us alone!
