Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

One Big Beautiful Bill

I highly recommend reading up on the “One Big Beautiful Bill' signed recently. Understanding the details of this legislation provides a lot of insight into the broader industry shifts, which explains why the company is offering the VSP and discussing potential layoffs right now.

@bf remember in his debate he said he had “concepts of a plan”… and this is where it led us.

What happened to Trumps alternative for the ACA-Obama Care? During his 1st term he said he would replace it with America First Heath Plan. Disappointed that this government has sla-ghtered healthcare.

Deny, raise premiums and layoffs are the only knobs healthcare leaders will turn to address healthcare problems. Their inaction is why the government is stepping in. The government won’t fix it either, but hopefully it will force healthcare companies to look at a new script and stop them from running the same plays over and over.

@a2 That’s a sharp perspective on the pattern here. There is definitely a tension between managing immediate financial pressures and building a predictable, proactive strategy. The impact of these continuous changes on the day-to-day work is very real.

I’ll push back on this one. The bill isn’t the explanation… it’s the excuse. The risk was completely foreseeable, and leadership had plenty of time to prepare. A VSP is a reactive response, not a proactive strategy.

How many reorgs, “pivots,” and simplifications does it take to get it right? They’ve never stopped long enough to understand what’s working and what’s not.

@OP The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) is a sweeping 2025 federal budget reconciliation law that enacted some of the largest cuts and restructuring to U.S. healthcare in history. It significantly altered Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces.
