In NC you can't claim unemployment if you receive a severance
You can get information on your state’s welfare policy at the same time.
You can claim unemployment the day that you are off payroll, regardless of any termination pay.
I had a friend collect unemployment and the severance package didn’t impact her eligibility. However, she didn’t have the time or age to retire. Her scenario was that they were eliminating her position.
I do not think you can claim unemployment until after the severance period is over.
This varies per state. Your best to do your own research. Some states consider severance "continued employment" while others don't. So what one person says might not be valid for Alabama.
