And if you are not accepted to VSP, the people leader will know your intention to leave and start retaliation process against you? Thats what I'm concerned with if i sign up

@a9 that's not entirely true. You have to apply and then it says in the fine print that just because you apply doesn't mean that you are accepted. It's based on business needs.

@ac that absolutely can be true. Everyone's is different. I've been with the company less than 4 years and I am being offered 12 weeks of severance ay 20k lumpsum.

@am

What about it isn't true?
There is a difference between being laid off vs. being fired.

And severance isn't guaranteed.

And in most cases, the employer will try to avoid having to be paying out for unemployment insurance if they fired someone vs. laid them off. Sometimes, rarely, the ex-employee can prove they're eligible for UI, but in most cases, the company wins, and the ex-employee is SOL.

No one's trying to scare anyone, just stating facts.

Has anyone seen anything in the VSP materials about accepting another job before the September 1 separation date? For example, if someone were to receive and accept another offer before then, would that impact VSP eligibility or severance payments?

@a5

Learn the difference between getting "fired" vs. being "laid off."

If they fire you, you don't get severance, and it renders you as being ineligible to receive unemployment insurance $. You just get your last paycheck, and that's it.

Careful what you wish for...you might just end up getting fired, instead of being laid off.
Don't assume that a nice big severance package will be presented to you as an option in the future.
They aren't required to give that, and they have ways of firing people when stubborn holdouts refuse to be herded out the door, when given the voluntary option to leave.

my severance package is $34,256. I'LL TAKE IT! God luck to the rest of you. Sept 1 is my last day.
