Spouse here. Be very careful reading any rules or TOS they might send along with the email and paperwork. When I lost my job last year, the severance rules said that if I badmouthed the company the money would be stopped.
You can always fudge the info a little that "I know somebody who..."
Interestingly, I looked at the Verizon threads and there is a TON of overlap about a clueless C-Suite, layoffs, pay, morale, etc.
