Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

throwing AI tools at us

earlier this week I got an API key for Claude Code. my coworker in EMEA got one too. she also got an email from her band 5's chief of staff asking to verify if she still needs to use Microsoft Apps and to present a "convincing and strong business case" for keeping them. are we buying these off the shelf?!

so let me get this straight: we have money to burn for AI (Gemini, VEGAS and now Claude Code amongst more probably) - BUT WE DON'T HAVE MONEY FOR MICROSOFT APPS?!

@bv Claude code is actually really cool but with this helicopter if people start burning input tokens like crazy on silly tasks and each VP org will be charged back for token usage, expect repercussions to start pretty soon (makes no sense to drastically RIF but bleed Opex from another pocket with no tangible results)

@bv lol, tons of employees don't have MS Office since the business adopted G suite 5-6 years ago

Security restrictions prevent this

@a7 You have to use what our customers use, and it isn't G Suite.

Some of y'all haven't learned how to 'properly' use AI tools yet. I would highly recommend it. My gut tells me it will be important in the future.

@a7 You're going to lose both and those left will be saddled with even cr-ppier software than they already have.

Verizon is paying $43M a year for everyone to have MS Office. Really pretty stupid!

Gemini su-ks big time..I do not know if it’s water down version.
I have to spend majority of the time I saved using AI by double checking and correcting mistakes that Gemini makes to solve complex problems because it does make lots of mistakes with confidence.

@ah why? You can import and export anything from google workspace to docx ppt etc. I hate our leadership but this seems like a no brainer

@a7 Verizon needs Microsoft for Pre-Sales and Sales Facing positions, because our customers don't use G Suite.

Everyone is being asked this question...there is a verizon wide scrub on software and if there are multiple of the same type then we will move on from it.

This is Dans Fire and he's not extinguishing sh-t.

I like Microsoft office to but let’s be honest Google workspace does 99% of the same sh-t and I’d rather we lose software than more people.
