It is about time. The retail operation has been a disgrace from near the beginning. It used to be the customer came first. If you where in a neighborhood people would ask for help and you could freely go help them. We truly served the customer and they trusted us. Now the customer is just a potential mark in the next scam. I am often asked what they should do about a cellular issue. Many are fearful of going into a store because of past experiences, bait and switch, slamming etc. leading to an overcharge as well as an annoying waste of time trying to correct afterwards. I apologize for their experience with the stores and explain what the stores have become. I suggest to them to go to the website or better yet an authorized reseller. There is no redeeming this part of the company. It is toxic and best shed off like a gangrened limb.

They will all be outsourced. Does not make sense to invest in inventory carrying costs, brick and mortar, security, and the headcount associated with it. B2B will go through the same thing for different reasons. VZ will become a network that others sell on.

@OP this has already started and some stores were sold off to indirects as part of the Nov 20th layoffs. I only expect it to continue, but what’s not clear is what will be left of the corporate owned locations, I’m sure we’ll keep ones in larger areas that perform well, but a lot of enablement work has been done where an Indirect can do almost anything a corporate owned location can.

I’ve been in the company since ‘82. It’s unfathomable how far they’ve slid from the original Bell System mantra. They have forgotten what real customer service means in every facet of their business. There’s NO question that it has totally changed the customer’s perception of them whether it’s fiber optic internet service, cellular or their aging pots ( dial tone) network. It’s a reversible circumstance that will most likely never be resolved. If you have a pension pending take the lump and buy a glf, guaranteed life annuity with it if you like the security of an annuity. And your pension fyi will be with Ver** if you haven’t YET retired, NOT Prudential. As of now VZ has no plans to sell more of the pension obligation.

Verizon badly mismanaged its own owned stores and then blamed them for it. Now they want to outsource all their retail because metrics are better. Goes to show that nothing matters when you have money. Verizon failed to manage and gets away with it, even rewarded for it.
