Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

No word on the extension talks

I was hoping to hear some info today on the negotiations about a possible extension. Does anyone know any info. Maybe a package for the union side?

@df when the “PACKAGES” are offered, people who are a year or 2 away from retirement will be taking it, you mo--n.

Dan will do a reverse lay off with the unions blessing like they did at avaya. That way all the senior guys get big money to leave - some with 2 years pay, because the layoff allowances are already in the contract. It will voluntarily but by senior man first. The company has money for that. No special "buy out" needed. No explanation to Wall Street. Win win for all. And yes you get laid off and immediately retire with your pension plus the (for some) 2 years pay. Simple

your a bunch of mo--ns. First off there is no such thing as a package. It is a surplus. A surplus is essentially a voluntary layoff. Those of you hoping for this are ignorant and short sighted. Those are jobs that don't come back....ever.

The longer the older work force stays the lower the lump sum pension payout is . Zero chance of even the 50K buyout . And he can just play major hard ball and chance the contract CWA will not call a strike against this man ,and if he they do he will not give in and reach a impasse and the new contract will be implied . Its sad but true all he wants to do in get rid of workers and use AI . The stock already went up 11$ and that's all that matters . The union is a huge burden and grossly over paid and compensated in todays day in age . Did you listen to him yesterday at the town hall ? Also there is a reason why no strike makes it to week 3 when the union pays us more each week . The union only cares about dues just look at all we lost in the past 20years. Stop being a ostrich with head in the sand . All other company's using contractor's for less then half the pay and no benefit's. AI will say crush the union and now is the time and part of the reason he was brought in . Only chance is to work a long long time under what we have and we should be so grateful if we are lucky enough to do that cause Dan may be the one to say no , not the union and lock us out to force impasse and new contract .

Dan could have given the riffed managers nothing. He could have riffed them without 2 weeks pay per year. There is no law stating a company has to do that. Dan will offer at least 2200 per year and 50k if he wants people to go. If not he will have an aging workforce sticking around and the young ones, who don’t have protections, will get laid off. In 5 years you will see the old guys leave and all the young, trained talent will be working for our competitors. You think the previous CEOs made some bad decisions, this will rank up there as a bone head move. It only makes sense to offer a decent package to get the older ones to move on.

Only package if any 10K plus 1100 each year if anything ,Dan is going to layoff union after that and the contract is way worse then just the retire benefits. The union is not saying anything cause they do not want to strike against this guy he does not care and will not agree and do not have to . The law is negotiate in good faith and he can say after a while the next Monday here is new contract show up or you are fired we have reached a impasse. ( Look up FairPoint contract in New England States ). He is saying no more raises at all and can hire contractor's for a third of what union members make plus no benefits'. He just got rid of 15k managers he for sure is not going to agree to anything with union . I am a union guy and do not want this, it is just the sad truth .I herd the union is afraid to strike against this guy so hopefully we just work without a contract for a long time . You need to realize this is a totally different situation then ever before or continue to be a ostrich with your head in the sand . Also the administration hates unions and just fired a lot of the union government workers.
