Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Why they are doing layoffs instead of eliminating H1b full time and external contractors?

Impacted employee. Easily they can eliminate H1b full timer and contract employees instead of doing this layoffs. How can they file H1b and green card when layoffs are happening ?

@ds typical misinformation. If it’s true, Name those companies. He was quick to name Sony and Disney when it happened in the past. One, second , third and fourth are not the name of the actual company.

According to Trump in his H1B declaration: Reports also indicate that many American tech companies have laid off their qualified and highly skilled American workers and simultaneously hired thousands of H-1B workers. One software company was approved for over 5,000 H-1B workers in FY 2025; around the same time, it announced a series of layoffs totaling more than 15,000 employees. Another IT firm was approved for nearly 1,700 H-1B workers in FY 2025; it announced it was laying off 2,400 American workers in Oregon in July. A third company has reduced its workforce by approximately 27,000 American workers since 2022, while being approved for over 25,000 H-1B workers since FY 2022. A fourth company reportedly eliminated 1,000 jobs in February; it was approved for over 1,100 H-1B workers for FY 2025. "

Guys, so much hatred in this post. Realize that when an h1b visa ends, they go back to their countries of origin.

@dk Personally, we have been ready for it since the day we came to the country. Already learnt to live with uncertainty. Thank you for the reminder though. And btw, I’m the only H1 guy in my team and I will be the first to be let go off and I don’t mind. I truly believe the job should go to citizens first. But apparently you guys are fighting amongst yourself! Seen some even celebrating fellow Americans losing job by starting a thread (now deleted) on their name.

@dc the low skilled workers are the internal employees but they aren’t cheap.

@OP I don’t think you understand the process, or your question is just bad.

@ap I didn’t distract the issue. Someone was so misinformed and was referring certain categories of workers as cheap. So I was just putting out the numbers. Some of you don’t know how wage level works. If you were so skilled, why weren’t you retained.

@cj arrogant?? Your lack of knowledge in immigration categories is appalling. Dude, just speak on things that you know of. No wonder you get easily misinformed or triggered. Yes, I heard of it and I am on EB2, and I know you don’t know what that means and how immigration works. If Your great grandparent's have had this discussion with you, you wouldn’t call someone arrogant. Anyways, I am out. I have a job and probably will get another hike this February. Just came in to say, USAA H1B employees aren’t cheap. Thank you and good day!

In Technology, there are H1B full-time employees directly sponsored by USAA. Those hired off of US universities or US Citizen experienced hires might not be aware of this. I just can't imagine their reactions when they find out.

They are eliminating some. My area had a team of H1B contractors and the whole team is cut. You just don’t hear about it as much.

All those people who think the H1b immigrants are taking their jobs. They are ignorant. They are not taking their jobs. They are putting their value in the country and they are paying taxes and they're not taking your jobs. They are part of the society and the jobs are taken by the greedy board of directors and their friends making billions and millions, but they are not paying you and what you see if they eliminate the jobs. They will hire the jobs in India or Philippines and still you will not get the jobs in country. So it's time to pay attention on how many services they have been outsourced to the different companies either directly or indirect. So you need to know what these greedy corporate people are doing to you and to the country.

Arrogant @ah If you have a masters degree and experience, why are you still in h1b? Have you heard about EB?

H1B is supposed to fill the gap when there's not any qualified local American candidates to be found. USAA applies for LCA and attests to America that it can't find any local candidates, that's why it sponsors that H1B. The question is, really? Why is USAA letting go of talented Americans who can actually fill in the positions of those H1B full timers?

If you have 14 years of experience and you still talk about your certifications, you are most likely vastly overpaid, not underpaid.

@OP because internal employees are under skilled, uneducated, lazy and overpaid. (Read comments on this site). Our H1B employees are clearly picking up all the slack for this company.

You didn’t see all the big back tortas from AML get laid off? Close enough.

During layoffs some of the h1b employees are also impacted, they have been 60 days to find another job
Or else they have to move out of the country, (no unemployment benefits) . In usaa h1b employees FTE are not cheap labor they are paid well, check LCA online if any one has question about it . They definitely work hard no doubt about it .
Don't complain, you don't know how difficult to sustain in temporary visa, they have to prove everyday . I see for small reason every one starts blaming h1b. I know the pain when laid off but only blaming h1b is not the solution

@ah don’t distract the issue. It’s not about the how much you are getting and no one is against anyone. Don’t make this sensitive and hide the actual issue. The real objective of H1b is speciality occupation and short term to occupy skill gap and labor shortage. In this case locals are being fired in the name of cost cutting but company still keeping visa employees and contractors to save paltry money. We always welcome talented individuals who help us and give everything but here in this case system is being abused.

@ag what’s your salary and job title? Just curious. Im a software engineer senior with 14yrs experience on h1b making $175k. Am I really cheap? Your comments are xenophobic and discriminatory 🫣. I don’t like what happened in the home office with some employees escorted out. Maybe this was the reason?

H1b's are cheaper. Keep the cheaper labor to save money. Claim that diversity is winning as a distraction.

The overseas contract ors are for continuing operation s if there is a disruption of service in the states (continuity of business).

H1B full time employees (not the externals), are definitely cheaper than Americans. So un-American for this company.
