How a monopoly survives:
1) Buy all threatening startups
2) Hire as many American employees as possible (read bold innovators) to sap their creativity and lay them off every 5 years.
3) Replace fired Americans with H1Bs to increase margins and distract American innovators with political outrage.

Basically declare war on all sources of competitive threat. Like the American dream and free trade, American innovation is dead as a door nail.
