Why is the union negotiating for an extension? Why not get a new contract. They have to fix retiree Healthcare. Then the union should try to get everyone a pension or at very least a bump in the match in 401K plans.

@aw they might be around another 22 years. I been 30 and think another 4 is easy. 10 more, I'm not sure for what I do.
You think Verizon will still be around till your retirement ?
Funny people with three and eight years in the Company think they are going to be around for another 22 years and retire from Verizon. Ma Bell no longer exists, you got bigger worries than a Pension
Yes frontier has many union employees! Verizon will negotiate and there will be a 4 year extension! Like it or not. If Verizon union strikes so will frontier! Verizon does not want that i assure you. By the end of January 2026 it will be settled and confirmed.
@a8 never happen! Union 💪
@a9 Yes, both Frontier Communications (telecom) and Frontier Airlines have unionized employees, primarily represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) for the telecom side and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) for the flight attendants, with pilots also unionized under ALPA. Workers at Frontier Communications frequently bargain for new contracts covering wages, benefits, and job security, while Frontier Airlines' flight crews and pilots use their unions to negotiate terms and improve working conditions.
Frontier Communications (Telecom):
CWA: Represents thousands of Frontier workers in areas like West Virginia, Connecticut, and California, with active recent negotiations for new contracts to secure better pay, benefits, and job protections.
Bargaining Focus: Recent contracts have included wage increases, retro pay, benefit maintenance, and job security clauses against outsourcing.
Frontier Airlines (Aviation):
AFA-CWA: Represents Frontier Flight Attendants, who voted to join the union in 2010 and have since used it to gain a voice in negotiations.
ALPA (Pilots): The Airline Pilots Association International represents Frontier pilots, who have recently authorized strikes due to stalled contract talks.
In summary, if you're dealing with Frontier, expect to encounter unionized labor, particularly from CWA for service/tech roles and AFA/ALPA for airline crew.

No way you will get a pension with the cost cutting and RIF's going on, especially if Verizon has to come up with $20 billion dollars to buy Frontier in 1st quarter of 2026. Dream on - wishful thinking
@ac Frontier does have union employees. Google is your friend.
If Verizon wants to get rid of the union, why would they want negotiate early for an extension?
@OP the narrative is that once the merger with Frontier is completed (January/February 2026) there will be less of a need for an unionized workforce for Verizon's footprint.
Frontier does not have an unionized workforce.
@OP competitor, T-Mobile, has no unionized workforce, and repeatedly eating Verizon's lunch.
@OP unbelievable, you know better, with the recent 15k management employees (US + India) which were RIFed last Friday, arent an indication as to how dire the situation is for this corporation and the magnitude of the continual and fierce competition.
@OP Verizon cannot afford an union nor its baggage. It is an era of austerity and will never revert back to the good old days.
Verizon is not going to risk its white-collar workers, 60k, for the 30k union employees and their breadth of skill sets, where there is no return-on-investment, for landline related technology.
They want to get rid of the union ,the company will never go back. You can not be this clueless . The company will allow a strike and declare a impasse and major changes will be in new contract but all bad
In the current political climate, with xero support for unions coming from a federal level, a 3 year extension to get to a maybe more favorable climate would be acceptable
The union will try and negotiate an extension but that doesn’t necessarily mean an extension without amendments.
