Wondering about the next President of Bell Labs? Male or Female? Exciting times ahead? Wouldn't it be a welcoming change?

@6bg Why does Nokia USA Bell Labs higher mainly visa workers and protect their jobs during RIFs? Why don't they hire more US university graduates who are already US Citizens? Wouldn't this attract more US government funding?

@6bg Isn't this exactly the opposite of the CEO goals as far as cost cutting goes?

  • Why does Bell Labs USA have so many visa employees? And No, they don't get paid less. Actually their salaries are mid to high range based on surrounding region.
  • Why do they still have two bell labs presidents? Traditionally, there has only been one.
  • Why are employees being transferred from a foreign country, like Europe, (where there are mass layoffs happening) to USA on visa? How is this fair to the US employee (especially who's job might be affected due to RIF)?
  • Why are those in US on visa already making a higher salary (due to visa regional salary laws) than US citizen employees and already working at an office location, allowed to transfer to a High Cost State for "full-time Remote" work (meaning no face to face collaboration) where the company now has to pay an even higher salary due moving to a high cost state & company already spending $10K for green card processing & the employee saving on office commuting cost, while those working and collaborating with teams in an office location, making lower salary, and US citizens continuing to get laid-off.

Next North America layoff (Feb 2026) will most likely, I would guess, will target Managers (especially those with less than 30 employees reporting to them due to all the AI tools making it easier to manage - for agility & closer collaboration between employees ) and high salary employees (like those in California since it wasn't mentioned as one of the states it plans to increase capital expenditure investment).

"About $500 million in U.S. capital expenditures will be invested in manufacturing and research and development in U.S. states that include Texas, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania."

My guess will be a layoff align with Jan 29, 2026 earnings call.
The European announcement takes a few years to work out with Germany work council.

US layoff notice will be hand out during the 1st quarter, align with notification timeline and general shareholder meeting in april

@11e Would implementing Perform-to-Win mean piles of lawsuits and the reputation of the company (and it's worldwide historic brand name) which would drive investors and customers away from the company?

Do snakes make mistakes?

A) "Nokia started classifying its employees into good and bad
Rewarding |Nokia's European Works Council is harshly criticizing a new employee evaluation method that forces supervisors to classify employees as good or bad."

B) "Nokia CEO: We made a mistake
