Does compensation peak once ypu are 40 years old?

No raise for me this year which is not unique but has me wondering if adjusted for inflation I have maxed out?

Nominal comp goes up with inflation plus about 0.5% for middle 3 qunintiles with promotions capping at CL 27. It goes up below inflation for bottom qunitile with no promotions (too force you to look elsewhere before pip kicks in).

Top Quintile will get to CL 30 unless you are in an affiliate that gets divested. PAy raises and promotions and comp can be very lucrative once you are above CL 34 and still ranked well.

In past over 20% of XOM hires made it to CL 30 while 50% resign/Pip within 10 years. Remainder are senior professional CL 27 to 29, with many making over $400k per year

@OP Nope, it peaks when you are lazy and spend too much time posting to thelayoff.com. Please leave the company. Now.

@OP The only real way to get a significant pay bump is to jump companies. Been that way for as long as I’ve been in the workforce. Retention budgets are minimal to non-existent at EM and virtually every other large publicly traded company.

Your choices are:

1) Keep applying elsewhere until you get something better then jump.
2) Stay and do the bare minimum while picking up a side-hustle (if you haven’t been already).

Whatever you do, don’t think for a second that “hard work” will do you any good in a large complex organization. It rarely if ever gets noticed. Whenever management talks to you, assume that you’re being gaslit by default.

Per the salary curves- curve is designed to go “flat” at age 46.

At CL28 thats true if you’re O/E but if you’re VG or lower you will probably top out at 29 so wouldn’t count on a promo for a while

Op here. I am CL28. They say I have potential to keep getting promotions but I have a hard time trusting anything they say.

Yea how long have you been at your current CL. Have you been just Good for years. Our new boss accidentally showed us our SR. Just depends if your LT got you high rankings quicker than should have. This stuff is never really explained. Been here for 16 years and no one has ever really told
Me the whole story on ranking, CL so forth.

What job do you do? Every job has a top pay for whatever level you are at so maybe you are topped out at your current level.
I’m in my early 40’s and received a 1% raise and they said I am topped out at my current job.

Mine peaked at 50. Left the company at 52 after two subsequent years of 0%.

Not for me, mid-fifties and just got a CL bump and ok raise, not spectacular, but at my salary level even a modest % is a nice bump in gross $$$. You have to keep growing, contributing, taking on different roles and skills, and unfortunately you must play at least a little of the game.

If you’re maxed out at 40, the company is giving you a signal
