Are you now freaked out because you think your supposedly full time job as a Q engineer is not about to pay you like a part time Q engineer. Yeah, layoffs are fun... Until you are hit with it yourself. So even if home prices correct significantly... — read more
R&D will be demolished
Focusing on 'value creating' R&D initiatives - that means nothing, that means that they have a blank check for cutting R&D left and right - that means that all what matters is milking the existing licensing revenues. Now you can see all private... — read more

5000+ To Be Laid Off
Its a 15% reduction, but they are going to hire overseas, which means the headcount loss from the US will be a lot higher than 15%. And the layoffs won't affect the road-map, IE you get shown the door when the chip goes out the door.
New acronym for today IDGAS

Have any of you not terminated with one employer before starting work at a new employer, if the new employer is not a competitor?
I'm considering doing this and dragging thing out to September to see if I can score a package if I can't get one in August.
So I have 3.5 more weeks of boredom before I join a new company. What do you guys think I should do to waste my time?
I think I'll just do what bigwigs here do and just look at my investments all day... But man, I've been doing that, and it sure is boring not to work on anything engineering related. How can people possibly do this day in, day out for a long period... — read more
Some inside info from HR: We are doing this only to whip everyone back into shape out of fear for being let go....
...but there won't actually be a RIF. Just need everyone to work hard as we enter new, high growth areas. Great talent takes a long time to build, and it'd be extremely short sighted to get rid of people and then need to hire them back as we enter... — read more
How to Choose People to Let Go
SM should create a xls of current CTC, sort high to low, save his and his staff's ass and select from top till he sees $300m in the right corner, List is ready, everybody will be happy,
I really feel sorry for you folks in QCT. Even in good times, you got screwed versus Corp R&D..Now, screwed again
Even during good times, you know that our RSU and Bonus pool was always larger than QCT's. And now, adding insult to injury, the bulk of the RIF's are coming from QCT. Sorry.
incredible
I am not sure about you guys, but I've followed 5 tech companies (Q included) on this site regarding layoff news/predictions/leaks. All the "rumors" have been 100 % accurate. Kudos to the kind-hearted layoff-news leakers for giving us headsups. Most... — read more

Phew! Time to go home. It's been a stressful day. I need to relax by the beach and do some surfing to get my mind off of things.

This is the end, even if we survive this wave of layoff Qualcomm is going down like a house of cards within next year end. Lets face the reality and prepare to hit rat-race of SV job market. Say bbye to beautiful San Diego and work-life balance.
When will employees start getting layoff notices?
Will it be through email, phone, in person? This f***ing sucks.
I am a motherfvcker layoff survivor. Fvck you.

I got my layoff noticed today
I met with HR today. They told me that my job was no longer available and gave me a package. It only has 2 months. I worked here for 11 years. Did anyone else get a package?
Can Same cost reduction be achieved by Looking at compensation given to VP's and above
Lot of compensation is given to management who has been driving company down. Isn't almost same cost reduction may have been achieved if management was not given huge compensation they have received in past?

Dear HR cheerleader, we miss you.
Where are those positive words of encouragement :)
No, "right sizing" isn't the worst words I heard...
I use to think the term "right sizing" was the worst euphemism I heard. That is, until I went to another company, and heard the CTO, when talking about reducing cost, said that they needed to "curb engineering inflation"
