5-Day RTO: Real Consequences or Empty Threat?

So, what actually happens if someone doesn’t stick to the 5-day RTO policy? Will managers just note it during performance reviews, meaning it could impact our bonuses or raises? Just wondering what steps Truist expects managers to take with team members who don’t follow the policy.

@2te Yeah that’s the problem. Maybe “normal” should have been in quotes. Normal per EL’s definition …. No doubt some of them (cue the angry old guy on SNL skits) want “the good old days” when we came in at 8:30 (or 8:00 if looking to impress the boss), took an hour for lunch and left at 5/5:30. We wore TIES and shoes made of animal skins. We respected our managers, wrote on actual paper, and had nice penmanship!!

@yw normal before the pandemic was not 5 days in office. What "nornal" are we talking about? All during the 2 years at home during covid, we were told we would never go back to sitting in an office "just to be seen". I believed EL.
We were told we were doing a great job, the bank was doing well. Are there any EL left from that time period? We were already hybrid at 3 days in office prior to 2020.
5 days sitting in traffic is a true waste of time. Dont waste your time telling me to get another job or just go to the office every day. I'm aware of my options, and am entitled to my opinion. Look for an exodus after bonuses.

@zg Such an intelligent and well-reasoned response. Stock price in the tank (down 3% from 5 years ago), bank is shrinking, “teammates” can’t stand each other or their leader or both, and while I’ve been following this board for the last several years there’s a stunning distrust of anyone’s motivations. I’m not sure “smooth” and “streamlined” is how I’d describe it. Maybe for you as an individual, but the stock holders (to whom management is actually accountable), are not exactly of a champion mindset. According to your logic, kids should all stay home from school and doctors should just practice Telehealth.

Your bank is an absolute mess and the next Harvard business case on how not to do a merger. You even made us forget the nightmare that was Wells/Wachovia. But yeah, everyone just stay home and claim a win when your come off mute before speaking.

@x4 What bonus??? None of us get a bonus. Just the usual 1% annual and that’s it.

@yw this everything back normal doesn't justify anything. Hey we didn't have electricity so what dont we go back to the days where we had none of that. Seriously sc--w off with the logic. In remote days we all did very well when it came to work. Everything was smooth and streamlined. No hassle especially in the commute. But I guess that doesn't matter to you cos u want to wallow im misery and want others to allow in the misery with you. Seriously f off

@xe C’mon don’t do that. If you’re sick, you call in sick and take a PTO. If your car breaks down, you call and explain what’s happening and deal. No different than at any other time in our hundreds-year history of working for someone else. The bosses simply want the workers to work, and to do so where they can be seen and talked to for 3 minutes without scheduling a damn zoom call for 30. The sky isn’t falling and no one is expecting people to walk barefoot through inches of snow, uphill both ways. They simply want everyone back to normal.

For those of us (no bonus incentive) salary only, remote workers hired as a full time remote workers in the days of SunTrust…it’s demeaning to now disregard the grandfathered work we were hired in for.

@x4 but what is the badge swipe quota? 5 days a week every week for the whole year? What about if you’re sick or your car breaks down? This whole thing is so stupid, I wish they would just leave us alone and let us do our 3-4 days per week.

If you don't meet the badge swipes quota, you will have a "no" in your behaviors goal for your annual/mid-year review.
Your manager will have to justify the discrepancy or it may affect your bonus.

@v4 I get it….. but I don’t know one person that has followed through with the 4 day mandate after they passed it. It lasted for 3-4 weeks max.

@ay A lot of us are in the office 4 days a week so I doubt they will let us do 3 days.

Probly like a “secondary offense”…. Can’t arrest you for not wearing seatbelt, so find something else like speeding or erratic driving. Going after RTO violators will involve finding something else for a “performance improvement plan”.

And don’t think managers won’t get heat, too. “You’ve GOT to get your people back in the office” is a fun conversation.

Unless your manager is a complete D-bag, just continue doing your 3-4 days a week and you’ll be fine. This 5 day RTO nonsense is to scare people off to avoid the bank paying severance. It would take the bank a year to fire you over not going in 5 days a week (if that was the case). In 20 years in the banking industry across various shops, I’ve seen layoffs but never seen anybody get fired. This is all a game of ‘chicken’.

Sounds like someone needs to watch more Purpose Corner. Champion mindset!

@d5 Yep, it all ties in to the failure of leadership to actually lead. Truist is stuck failing to innovate, just desperately trying any sort of action theater to make it look like they have a plan. The only plan they have is to desperately hope economic forces turn around and make them look successful, but it will be in spite of their actions not because of them. It's really pitiful.

Truist HR is extremely risk averse and the legal strategy when people are fired and sue is to settle so I wouldn't worry a lot about the bite. They're hoping to get the people who already hate it to leave voluntarily.

So before Covid, what would HR do if someone would not come in their required 5 days? Wouldn’t they get fired? Why wouldn’t they do that now?

It’s a scare tactic for people to quit. People will follow marching orders for a month or so and everybody will go back to 3 days in office . Nobody is going to do 5 days a week.

Are there consequences now?!?!?

Some of us have been with the bank for many years. If a RIF is a consequence, it’s not necessarily a negative outcome, as it would include a nice severance payout.
