Applying internally- automated email sent to your manager now?

I applied last week and received an email saying that my manager was going to be notified within 24 hours for 'transparency'. I havent even spoken to the recruiter yet. Is this a new thing now? I had applied before and never received this email before.

There are no privacy rights when you're applying internally. If your manager is actually upset by you applying for another role, then you'll have all the proof you need that you need a new manage or a new company.

A manager should be advocating for his people to get better jobs, so notifying them isn't a bad thing.

If your manager su-ks, let HR know. There's only so many times a manager can be raised as being awful before it becomes clear that it's not the disgruntled employee, it's the toxic manager.

You should always let your manager know you are exploring options. It is not a violation of your privacy as someone mentioned :). Do you not think hiring managers reach out to your current manager for insight? Although, I have been surprised at this company a few times because there was no outreach :)

@k7 I did notify her, and she did receive an email that I had moved to the second round. She was well aware I was exploring options, so the email was no secret.

@ft

Did you notify your manager? Do you know if they actually received an email?

@aa this was my most recent experience. I got to the second round, and received an email that stated my manager would be notified but they encouraged my to be proactive and speak to her.

your manager should not be notified if you are seeking a new internal position. This violates your privacy rights. Hupothetically your manager could attempt to sabotage your changes to getting this new position or hold it against you for seeking a new position. Perhaps when a new layoff list is being prepared your manager may now submit your name thinking that you didnt want the job any longer. It is very unethical of Human Resources to create this policy. They are not protecting you. I am sorry to hear this

I thought you were only required to tell your manager if you are invited to 2nd round of interview
