Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Are office locations for internal job postings negotiable?

I see some jobs that only list the NYC or Frisco as office locations on Workday, are those negotiable at all? Wondering if I currently report to the Charlotte office and want to apply if I could stay here or would need to move.

@ph from what I’ve been told by people close to these openings (either they know someone in HR or in said department), it’s something like that. They try and hold out for people in Frisco first. After that, no clue if they settle for a B tier instead of an A tier hire - not calling myself A tier, just speaking in general. But based on almost all roles that fall directly on my group or a close indirect to my group, all of these roles have Frisco as primary. Really su-ks, as I’ve seen roles go to some Frisco FTEs and CWs that were not as quailed as people I work with that also applied. Not even close to the same level.

@kr and is your candidacy on hold until they can justify making Charlotte or NYC a primary location?

@jn yes. They are hoping to get some folks internally and externally to fill the space in Frisco after getting less than expected relocation from the Denver closing.

Which su-ks, considering better talent may be better in Charlotte or NYC but they just need to save face

A couple of roles I have applied for, the managers are in Charlotte and Waltham but they are still listed with primary location as Frisco. I literally sit a few spots away from the hiring manager’s office for one of the roles I applied for.

What does it mean when a role lists Frisco as the primary and other offices (Charlotte, NYC) as secondary? Does that indicate the search needs to focus on Frisco candidates for a specific period of time before opening up to the secondary locations?

If it says strictly Frisco, then they probably won’t negotiate. They are hard pressed to fill that empty shell.

Unless the role is specific to Frisco , internal mobility is allowed for charlotte based employees without moving.

Depends how desperate they are and how many people they get to apply
