Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Do you know where your employment contract is?

It's dawned on me that during the hiring process, with its flurry of emails and documents going back-and-forth, I didn't get a signed copy of my contract back from OT. (Obviously, OT isn't foolish enough to add a copy to employee profiles in TC.)

It draws me to wonder how many other people are in the same position--"somehow" the final copy of your contract never made it back to you.

@zj look everyone! It appears one of the aforementioned “mean girls” has entered the chat. Only one of their own would make even the slightest attempt to jump to their défense. Your Sesame-Street-style job descriptions were at least entertaining. You’re definitely in OT HR!

A few years ago, after one of the acquisition tidy ups, I was sent a copy of an updated contract to sign. The contract had nothing to do with my job - was clearly someone elses. HR response - "Oh, could you please write up your job description for us". Let's just say that my new job description leaned heavily in favor of the employee.

@fz “mean girls”?!? What are you? 12?! Besides, they don’t write your performance reviews. They give ranking requirements to your manager and they write the review to fit. And of course HR doesn’t care about employees. IT manages laptop and software issues. Facilities manages cubicle and chair issues. Team managers deal with production issues. HR manages workforce issues. We’re chattel like servers and expenses like property leases. It’s hardly news.

@fz you must work in Sales too. These tactics are being heavily used in our org across the board. It creates so much anxiety!

@d6 this is extremely accurate. HR is a joke, run by self-righteous, nasty, mean girls. A lot of PIPs and warnings going out, out of nowhere, and sudden, bad performance reviews. Combined with expedited performance reviews, the writing is on the wall. I avoid HR as much as humanly possible. They do not care about us. Period.

@b5 Yup, if one of the perpetually smiling HR airheads gets the ticket, they’ll pull the PIP lever. If it’s one with a little more savvy, they’ll find other ways to slowly insert and twist the corporate blade.

@bg It's what is signed when your current employer sells you to a new employer. You don't get to see the details.

Then the new employer takes away vacation days, takes away bonus potential and starts to micromanage you.

At least that's been my experience, YMMV.
