Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoff managers vs employees

If every 10 employees lose 3 positions while management remains unchanged, the organization should also evaluate manager-level roles. Workforce reductions should be based on efficiency and business needs at every level—not only on frontline employees. A balanced approach creates fairness, accountability, and a leaner organization.

@ey VZ Pulse data shows that those directors very direct, honest and well regarded by their direct reports

@ar define plenty through the lens that 10,000+ employees were laid off

In normal org structures it would have rippled up and made at least 1000 management positions redundant

But not at Verizon where favoritism and nepotism bloom and A-s Dirs with 1-2 direct reports are quite common

@OP In an ideal world, yes but Verizon is very far from ideal so I suggest you start looking at things through a more realistic lens. Your career and your financial future depend on this. It’s not an academic exercise.

In my organization, fairness, efficiency, and integrity are just empty words that are used to hide favoritism, dishonesty, and incompetence. Either I’m particularly unlucky or you haven’t woken up to the reality.

Plenty of managers and ADs have left as well so am not sure what you’re saying is reflecting reality
