Self Promotion Week

This week must be post self-indulgent posts on LinkedIn on how great I am as a leader week.

Honestly, it’s so cheesy and desperate and why would you want to tell your competition what your doing.

I would ban employees from these self-indulgent posts; customers see right thru it anyhow. Comes across as don’t fire me please or hire me please to outsiders.

DinkedIn Classics:

A) "I'm an AI expert!"

B) Today, as I was eating my cheese sandwich, I remembered some important lessons:

  • My kindergarten teacher once said, "go sit in the corner" I have always refused to sit in that corner. The PROVEN LEADER in me just will. not. CAPITULATE.

  • Once, when my colleague was working on a project, I whispered to them "there's only room for one of us in this office". He looked scared but you gotta do what you gotta do. # NO PIVOT

  • I was called into a meeting with my manager's manager's manager's manager (by the way I'm a leader) and didn't know how to respond when I was asked about my direct output so I had to be quick. I said "the strategic value of leveraging our solutions enterprise is more of an unpack that, put-a-pin-in-it, FY45, circle-back type of synergy." He did not even have the BANDWIDTH for it.

Lesson? Sometimes you just gotta BE THE BULLSH-T. OWN your bullsh-t.

How will you own your bullsh-t today?

How to look like an A--hole to Everyone on LinkedIn:

  1. You have to write "PROVEN leader" or "86 years of management" to be seen as an alpha super narcisstic dou--ebag.

  2. Go fake help the homeless. Do something totally meaningless - like give them body washes with your face on them and get a photo. Post it.

Try to see if Aerosmith will play a "homeless concert" organized by YOU where you're the organizer, tickets are $800 and the homeless watch from the street.

  1. Your first ever job? If one of the main distribution centres is in say, Italy, you change it to say you worked in Italian Sales for 4 years.

  2. Those extra marital affairs you're trying to get in your DMs over the last several years? Keep those up - because it's all about who you can use right? We know you've been married 3 times but who cares!

@OP I remember LC telling us she played high school and/or college soccer when she visited our offices so now she’s attending games courtesy of her former direct reports and posting about the network upgrades on LinkedIn. I suppose it’s like when business person invites you to lunch and you have to discuss business however briefly so it qualifies as a deductible business expense.

It would make more sense for Verizon to be advertising these network upgrades on social media, streaming services, or traditional media. Millions of customers or potential customers never heard of her let alone follow her on LinkedIn.

@OP Are you talking about LinkedIn posts trumpeting upgrades to stadiums and airports in preparation for the World Cup?

These projects cost tens of millions and they deserve to be highlighted by someone with a bigger following than a Verizon VP or EVP. I doubt anybody follows them outside this relatively small industry.

This site is very cynical, but a lot of time the Comms teams ask folks to share content or team members request it sent for work they did to the community. Nobody thinks they are getting promoted out of it. It’s like facebook now, meaningless.
