@OP For years, remote employees have consistently delivered results, innovated, collaborated, and supported customers across time zones — often going above and beyond without the physical walls of an office. The return-to-office mandate ignores real data and real contributions. Productivity didn’t drop. Commitment didn’t fade. What changed wasn’t performance — it was trust.

People have built lives around the flexibility they earned. Forcing a one-size-fits-all solution takes us backwards, especially when remote work has proven that talent isn’t defined by a ZIP code and dedication isn’t measured by a badge swipe.

If we can thrive from anywhere, we should be trusted to continue doing so. RTO mandates don’t preserve culture — they risk losing the very people who helped build it.

@wk I agree with you, I have the same situation. I am less productive in the office than I am at home because there are too many distractions.

@ja This is exactly the problem. Not all of us are in roles that should be in the office. I am heads down, staring at a screen all day. I have nobody in my office to "collaborate" with. I would be going in to be a warm body in a seat. I can't work with the distractions of open concept seating. My work will suffer and I will take the blame. But go ahead and only think of things in your bubble.

Because Bill is the CEO and says so, that’s why.

@jx the mile radius from a hub- is that only people who were fully remote?

@jx Very few positions have contracts at Truist. How are they handling offer letter status for people in the same role where the offer letter said “telecommute”?

As far as “case by case” basis, if that means managers can use discretion regarding the radius, what is going to ensure consistency and fairness across the board? Guess I’m thinking there is some requirement if they expect 90% to be in office

@j6 yes, the reports are being socialized. The mile radius distance from a hub is being removed, it will be a case by case exemption now. It looks like 90% of current remote workers will be brought back in unless you have it written in your contract which clearly states you are remote. No contract means no recourse to fight it.

@j6 'It makes that big of a difference to our quality of life' ... No sh-t sherlock. It would make a big difference to EVERYONE's quality of life. So why should you be treated differently than every other teammate forced to RTO? GO head... I'll wait.

@j6 - Leadership at Truist are the gold standard for reneging. Truly a masterclass on going back on every promise they make.

So they already have the analysis done on which remote teammates are getting changed to in office?

My manager said he thinks we are fine to stay remote but doesn’t have any official word, he said nobody knew for sure yet. we are all within 20-40 miles of Atlanta or Charlotte or Orlando but have been remote for over a year.

I took this role specifically because the team was remote, we all joined for that reason honestly. It makes that big of a difference to our quality of life

@a4 '"Make full use of your sick days, don’t hesitate to call out during releases, PI Planning, or other key events.

Remember, this bank has been quietly quitting its employees since day one. Don’t feel a shred of guilt about returning the favor."

This is right on the money. They try to brainwash us with the stupid training slides

"Jenny realizes she has only used three sick days, should she call out to use them up?"
"No, sick days are for being sick only."

Wrong, I'm gonna be burning every sick day I have, and I won't work from home sick. F them, if WFH isn't allowed I'm certainly not going to WFH when it benefits them.

You gotta love how Bill doesn't have the stones to send this out himself, he sends his lackeys Amy and Kimmy to do it.

Anyone else want to get "bill rogers is an a**hole" trending on Google?

Entire teams are telecommute in my area. It’s like 40% of some departments. Why not handle some of those “limited exceptions” before taking my one day of flexibility? Feel like I’m being punished for playing by the rules. Should have just whined to get out on telecommute smh

@aa Limited exceptions? Thats a joke! Over 70% of REL teammates are fully remote and 20% don't get monitored or just sneak out at noon. I dont see that changing, so only maybe 10% of REL will get sc--wed while the rest continue to work in PJs, walk their dogs, pick up the kids up 3:00, put more $$$ in their bank accounts with savings, like gas, wear-n-tear,daycare and pet sitting, tolls and parking. They are NOT quiting.

Maybe they should try on-shoring the tech resources they forced us to offshore 2 years ago under the prior "leadership". I would be a lot more productive if there were any developers or testers available after noon EST co-located in OUR TIMEZONE. Coming in 1 more day a week isn't the silver bullet they think it is.

I strongly suggest everyone take a hard look at the employment picture and open jobs before making any decisions or saying you will leave for anything other than retirement or self employment. The job market is worse than the Great Recession, remote jobs do not exist, hybrid is vanishing and the hiring process is unbelievably bad. You do not have to take my word for it, head over to the subreddit called Recruitinghell. And no, your degree, certifications and experience will not matter, and things have been deteriorating all year.

Just remember if you get an offer for a different job that is fully remote a $5000/year pay cut is basically even compared to working in office 5 days a week.

  • I worked remote for the last 17 years of my career.
  • I won awards, had very high yearly reviews and worked very hard for my employer.
  • I was hired at Truist with the promise of being a remote worker when I stared here a couple of years ago.
  • I was given 3 Purpose awards in the last 2 weeks alone from high level teammates.
  • I will be forced to go into the office.
  • I will now do the bare minimum.
  • I will be gone as soon as I get my bonus.
