Coming first or second week of April. Once again, B10 will be decimated lives and families destroyed and children lose healthcare. Decisions being made above flms and slm heads. All decided by opps.

@OP why are you pointing out B10s specifically? If you are a B10 and can’t weather a financial storm from a layoff then you shouldn’t have been in that position to begin with if you don’t have the ability to save and invest appropriately given the salary.

Oracle announced 18% worldwide layoffs today (29k heads). This does not bode well for blue as they usually play follow the leader

People in this thread acting like a B10 is some super senior executive only one or two steps down from Arvind. Come on.

Yes - SEC said wow this place has gone to sh-t and GTFO

@jw There are two things that are well, well understood. First, many people other than B10s will be impacted. Second, and this is key, OP is a B10 and, as with all B10s, she (or he) made it about her (or his) particular cadre. You understand that, right?

This is one of many problems with these schemers. The boat is sinking and they muscle their way through all the other people's children to claim the lifeboat for their clique. They never care who they hurt. Why would they? They are B10s after all.

Absolutely many people other than B10s will be hurt by this. But a B10 made 100% sure that the focus of this RA has to be about B10s and not the rest of the community. It's part of the mindset of being B10.

Do you follow? Can you follow?

@jw so it sounds like only b10 is in trouble unless you're in albany, where everyone will be safe.

@fg it will not just not B10. It won’t just be B 10. It. Will. Not. Only. Be. B10. OP is just wrong. Do you follow? Do you understand? It. Will. Not. Be. Limited. To B10. Do you follow? Can you follow?

OK so drop Samsung but add Lam. The idea is Albany does basic research to contribute to IBM’s IP portfolio, and you better be adding to the portfolio or IBM will dump you

@Hw. Ask yourself this about being in Albany. Am I contributing to IBM’s IP portfolio? Remember Albany is part of basic research with Samsung and others. If yes, you are safe. IF no then you are most likely at risk

The odds are very very good that IBM continues the cost take out in NA and Northern Europe. 6-10 k of legacy heads a year is the goal. Those take outs will fall more heavily on consulting and higher band levels due to “thats where the costs are”, and they are the only folks left standing. IBM is very much following the Kyndryl model which is to offshore labor to lower cost countries as labor has become a commodity, and manufacturing has already been offshored (except for mainframe). So what will 2026 bring? Here are a few speculations

  1. IBM will aim for a 5% on shore labor force. Kyndryl started at 8% on shore, but is rapidly moving to 5%. IBM has made the decision that labor is a commodity except for enterprise engagements.
  2. IBM will partner off everything infrastructure related except for enterprise. Yep that means all scaleout products, including TSS, cloud, Power and storage
  3. IBM will move to an IP model (HW) and distribution model (SW).
  4. IBM’s ultimate goal is high touch enterprise, and AI/automation everything else. Yep that means automation will gradually replace labor no matter where it is located.

@ed Isn't it time the the children of mommy or daddy B10 learn that they are the spawn of thoughtless, scheming parasites? These people spend a career crpping on me and holding me back and I now need to shed tears for their offspring? Do I need to send money to support their cat and dog, too? How about we all drop the pearl clutching? You can care about whoever you want to. I'll do the same.

@dd could be wrong, but honestly think most are. This site easy to find compared to others like Reddit where you have to really dig. I actually think the problem is it’s so easy to find that the level of discourse is lower.

@ec so just to be clear here, it’s OK for people to not care about the children and families of people who are “band tens”, and that part of this post is almost certainly wrong and irrelevant as it will be everybody anyway… But you are all offended because someone was a little bit mean and their work choice? OK for For Children to suffer, but terrible to use multisyllabic words in a mean way. Got it.

@db how about climbing off your soapbox? First and foremost, this thread didn't invent class warfare. Untold numbers of undeserving B10s and untold numbers of deserving B9s left behind because of petty management and jealousies did that. This thread may have exposed it but it wasn't invented here.

I know that you didn't suggest that it was invented here. But then you do go on to to belittle and demean your fellow contributors to this thread. I suppose that some will thank you for gracing us with your superior intellect and morality. But if you were really that superior, perhaps you could be so in a way more uplifting and and less condescending to to your lessers?

@e0 they say in Albany (the capital of nys) a band seven needs to be directing, not being directed and that it’s a leadership position (an excuse for marking people as low performers),

Class warfare. So stupid.

After 15 years stuck at a band 9, I clawed my way in front of several panels to get promoted to a Band 10, STSM. I had to show not only I could walk on water but under my feet it all turned to wine. This was as an IC who could do strategy. The panel was arrogant and di-kish and it took me two tries. Crowning career achievement and for the first time in 20 years I could afford to go on a nice vacation.

Then Arvind came and sh-t on my career. We had 3 reorgs in 4 years. It became impossible to get into the new cliques. They had their own people to protect and their own jobs. When I showed them the water walking, turning it into wine, the new management said "meh! We wanted Pinot noir but you gave us Merlot." Truthfully it wasn't that different from that.

My last day was Dec 4. I was STSM barely 5 years before Arvind blow torched my career and dumped me in this evil, awful job market. I got where I got based on personal initiative and strategic vision - they got rid of me so they could hire a bunch of interns who don't even know how to wipe their own behinds.

I was not management. I was a recognized high achiever. And being rewarded for that almost immediately got me laid off.

Sorry to the Band 10s affected this round. It will never end until Arvind and his regime are ended.

@db horsesh-t! the original post first and foremost specifically calls out how b10 will be decimated. what about everyone else?! and it ends with how the flms and slms are so innocent. horsesh-t! yes, blame for laying off employees increases as you go higher up the org chart, but managers shouldn't be so fu--ing spineless! stand up motherf----rs! if you get canned for doing so, then so be it! regular employees get raed all the time for standing up or even for just doing their jobs. the original post is a torch song for b10s, flms, and slms -- the so-called "grownups," most of whom are annoying twerps who mostly talk sh-t.

Reading the comments on this post it’s clear they’ve already won. If the goal was to try to create some sort of internal “class warfare“ then it’s pretty clear that they’ve achieved it. You would like to think this is a more intelligent, sophisticated place staffed by intellectually capable adults, but the petulancy, little boyish, teenage style of writing and responding you see here suggests otherwise. I guess we all deserve what’s coming. Some of you are so intellectually gimpy you have completely missed the point of this post and zoned in on the band 10 part as if your lives depended on it, which I guess, given the intellectual quality displayed here, in a sense they do. Certainly your ego’s do. You honestly think they’re not going take out whoever they want whenever they want? We deserve what’s coming. They’ve already won.

I’m sure there will be layoffs like there always are. You could make this announcement just about any month and you have a 30% chance of being right . Layoffs are continuous mode of doing business at IBM.
I don’t know why anyone is surprised at any time. For most people when they get the ax, it’ll be the best thing that has happened to them. I know, I spent 18 years there. I left voluntarily last year.
The job market is not great. But that place is toxic. Has been for a long time.. everyone has to make a choice . Hang in there and take the hits to your mental health. Or walk away potentially take a hit to your financial health. Not easy choices. Good luck.

Yea they are the ones who say annoying stuff like circle back, synergy, etc. They lead teams but don't know anything technical. All they do is schedule meetings, send slack messages and repeat the talking points of Alvind and the PipMonkeys

@ap Heh, so true. I remember this one B10 from way back when I worked at IBM. Boy he could talk the sh#t. He not only echoed the lies management was saying but embellished them. Managers and execs all thought he was a genius. The rest of us knew he was a clown. So I totally understand the animosity towards B10s. Best, former IBMer.

Most of the Band 10, I encountered during my 30+ years working at IBM are complete id--ts. They are useless. They can talk and make charts, no other quality.
IBM executives, under the guidance of the Indian id--t at the top, started targeting high salaries employees in the US, moving the responsibilities by creating jobs in India.
At the end of last year, IBM targeted competent employees. The writing is on the wall, who is next.
Now, IBM stands for India Business Machine.

@aa in what parallel universe are band 10 coddled? At best they are mid career managers. At worse, they are early to mid career individual contributors, probably reporting to other band tens. In most business units, there’s a hair breath between a band nine and a band 10. In fact in a lot of business units band 9s were band 10s until recently. And if you’re not gonna show empathy for human beings, losing their job for no reasons, at least try the children and families part? Otherwise, you basically sound like a disgruntled band seven who can’t get promoted… Probably with reason.
