Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Network - Surplus then Org w Vacancies

I can't believe they just did a big surplus on Wednesday and then sent out a new org announcement with a lot of vacancies in it at L3/L4. And promoting someone. (Walters org)

Tone deaf and insulting to teams who are losing really good people due to location, RTO, presence.

Ironic. We had layoffs in the same org that has these openings.

@jp if you talkin bout Emily Chen she a racist. Only black people let go. All the layoffs go to the tag-la team and the rest of her team stay. They ain’t doing no work and she keep them.

@jp UNBELIEVABLE that this just went out. Shouldn’t - Wasn’t there some rule/practice to try to consider those impacted first? How terrible of AT&T! And you know they know who they are choosing already. I feel
sorry for anyone who interviews with hope bc the candidates are already known. The posting and interviews are just to cover themselves.

So sad this company can’t run like other companies that truly give all candidates a fair chance! I’m not an L3 or 4 but if was I’d be furious that I just got let go and there’s jobs available at my level. so very sad…. when will the company be run with morals?

@OP Walters org very corrupt. L4 in group is McElfresh’s former EA, makes surplus decisions based on who she doesn’t like, protects who she likes. That’s how it rolls here. Many of us received notice last week. She will promote who kisses her but - no credentials required — her L3s have no formal education — just kiss her butt. And bc she served McFresh she is untouchable — we’re told in Dallas, she goes around her Level 5 directly to Fresh. Sadly it’s “who you know” “who is liked” in this org.

@a3 I agree and continue to see some of the poorest performers survive while others do not. The worker bees know who gets it done; and who is floating taking up a seat.

@em easiest replacement with AI starts at the top C levels who do absolutely nothing of any real value

@a6 these people will simply be replaced with yes men nodding heads. No L3 or above has any power any longer. Stink runs this place like a dictatorship and that’s why it’s failing.

@e8 "Alot of entry level management roles and recently level 2 roles have been impacted"

Because the C-Suite thinks AI will do the job of the L2s and below.

Why haven't we seen level 3 directors of sales being axed? Alot of entry level management roles and recently level 2 roles have been impacted but the level 3 hasn't been touched. Any word ? Will next round hit? These guys just state the obvious in the reporting and talk to vpgm without really knowing their business.

The problem is not everyone let go was dead weight and or lower ranked. No rhyme nor reason.

@ad Imagine being so racist you don’t promote someone because they’re white.

@ad sales has the most dead weight that needs to be purged in this place.

So, how many L3+ positions were eliminated in this last round. If AT&T is projecting to get down to 90K employees within the next 2 years, why would there be any hiring or promotion at those levels. We are going to be so top heavy . . . per Legg "not enough doers".

I’m not going to bemoan clearing out some spots for new leadership roles. We desperately need new leaders in those L3+ spots. Promotions have been non-existent for a very long time. Though I know I won’t be someone they ever promote, good for others especially if they promote from within.

There are a lot of opportunities for people if you working in a hub. It pays to relocate.

This is a positive. Dead weight needs to be cleared to allow room for new ideas. No one should want the lowest ranked employees in a group to stay on with no end.
