Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

A career in banking?

I was just laid off by Truist and I think the experience taught me that I don’t want to be in banking. Why would anyone sign up for a career dealing w belittlement and smearing?

@hs I was gonna say “at least you don’t get shot at” but with retail banking and robberies you never know. My better response is “thank you for your service”.

@hs Big four bank and big four public accounting firm were worse. It depends on what you do and who you work for. I hope you find a better work life balance. No should be working 80 hours a week.

Been in the the industry a long time. Striking how many people in “Banking” don’t actually “do banking”. Analysts, technology, marketing, human resources, property management, office support, etc. Banking does have nice perks like holidays and decent benefits, but I’d stay out of the retail side of anything.

@e7 I didn't work as many hours in the military in a war zone as I do in banking. I have seen months of 80+ hours a week for 2%. You are either being dishonest or daft.

Banking is a great career. I have been in other industries. Banking holidays, normal hours, decent pay, and benefits. Like every industry there are the best companies to work for and other struggling companies to stay clear of. Life is hard you are picking your hard. Truist has been a painful experience for me in many ways but I will take the short commute and less hours than when I worked for a big 4 bank.

That’s your response to this? You must be Bill.

@OP Lies. If you were an actual onshore teammate you were offered a replacement position and you turned it down for ego, not wanting to RTO, or both.

I hope this is a real post and not a troll or bot. If so I am very sorry this happened to you especially this time of year. I honestly think you will be much happier in the long run as this bank is a terrible place to work, and you will find a much better one in the future. If your skills are not financial institution specific then certainly try other industries, why not. Good luck in your search and don’t think twice about TFC, it is not a good environment at any level.

Sorry to hear you were laid off right before the Holidays. But that’s how TFC rolls.

Banking can be a great career. I know this from personal experience. Unfortunately, Truist is not the place to build a successful banking career. I know this from experience as well.

Best of luck in your future job search and endeavors.

I’ve been in banking 20 years and agree with a previous post that it’s the bank not the industry. If you like the banking profession, I would try to work for a smaller community bank. I’ve worked for large banks and a community bank. The culture at the community bank was awesome without all the BS at a large bank. Best of luck in your search.

It’s really more an issue with this particular bank, there are far better institutions to work for. In corporate America, there will always be those companies, and this certainly isn’t unique to banking. Best of luck in your search.

In my experience, it’s wise to take what recruiters and HR say with a grain of salt and instead listen to the people who actually work there, especially those who have nothing to gain from whether you accept the role.

I’ve decided to leave banking. Seems like this behavior is systemic with unfounded god complexes and extreme arrogance. I’d encourage any fellow younger person to avoid banking at all costs.

Sorry to hear you got the boot. And in December? ‘Nuf said about TFC. I’ve been in banking since the 80’s and can tell you for certain it’s the bank, not the industry. Good people get stuck in bad environments; that’s the case here. Good luck in your search; a better situation is definitely out there.
