Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Considering leaving technology

Been giving it serious thought, as I have been job searching and finding little movement or activity from applying, agency recruiters, etc. It might be due to now in Q4 and "circle back season", but I wonder if I should use this time to explore other options and going back to school part-time.

Anyone else thinking about this?

@y1 Actually a correction - I checked my facts and there are 11 locations left, at least according to this map:

https://brilliantmaps.com/us-locations/sears-locations/

They do have an online site too, actually, which I knew already. But I’m surprised any physical locations are still around. I learned something new today, guess.

@da I hate to break it to you, but Sears is long gone.

@wy Hope they do, I've had some bangin' spicy black bean burgers too (not joking they're good)

Cisco plan is to make people lead on their own, or PIP them. Most cost effective way.

I left Cisco voluntarily for my own sanity as I could not stand another day waiting for LR severance. It was making me unwell and waking me at night. You might well say get real and grow a set but working there is a slow insidious spiral into mediocrity, mind control, BS, gaslighting and prevailing fear. I’m financially alright and will live off savings for bit before I take 401k/IRA savings and retire early. I may work at Sears or Home Depot for a year or two on the floor with customers and just do a job for some groceries money and go home without the stress and worry of Cisco.
I think this is deliberate ELT policy to get people gone without severance.
I used to enjoy my job at Cisco and worked with a sense of excitement and purpose. Those days are long gone.

@aj The days go from looking at one blue-light screen to another at the end of the work day. Some off-screen time is a good thing.

@aa Running your own business would be a great service to others. If you decide on it hope it works out.

100%. Would LOVE to get caught up in the next round of layoffs and shift into something that doesn't involve blue-light filtration.

Been thinking about opening a burger place... Making good food for people. Might make me feel better about myself.
