Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Any word on the street regarding layoffs for 2026?

Has anyone heard any rumor or gist from leadership or a manager regarding if there will be any layoffs planned for 2026?

So is vsp just the first round? If you recall they did an involuntary in January 2020 but that was Anadarko clean up. Followed by name your price in may 2020.

@te correction, all of the Marathon employees were laid off. Very few were hired by Conoco. Many were on transition until recently and have now been laid off, but they were never Conoco employees.

Conoco is one of if not the most bloated companies in oil and gas. Oxy has a much smaller employee pool. Not to mention, at least in land, I can’t think of a single person who came over after the crownrock acquisition. All of those marathon employees stayed after they were acquired so they need a layoff to right size.

Conoco starts their 20-25% of 13,000 employees this week. That is a lot of people that will be looking for work. In the end there will be a lot less jobs in oil and gas. If Conoco can do it I am sure Oxy is at least looking at some type of reductions since just about every oil and gas company has done some type of reduction in 2025.

@d5+1k8w70r10 I have not heard anything about VH retiring, but it would not be a surprise since RJ is now COO.

There should be at least a 10 percent reduction in the workforce due to a necessary reorganization once GOA and Permian are cut back on due to really low oil prices in the near future.

@gh Sorry, that’s just gas, and not the kind that comes out of the ground.

@d7 I can see the big grin on your face every time you think of those 167 lives, too. Big Oxy grin, right?

Lol - Piper Alpha guy? Ignoring ever one of the dozens of other examples of what Oxy and its staff are that have been posted here again and again. I guess ignorance really is bliss. Just keep ignoring the facts and track record and throwing your tantrums, Oxy. It makes it all better in your mind and helps you sleep at night.

@d9

Kinda like the "Goodfellas" scene where Joe Pesci thinks he is going to a ceremony to become a made man.

"Oh, no!"

Note to Vicki: Now go home and get your F---ing french ho-n!

The only time in 40 years did I knew about layoffs happened once on the day it happened. Stepped into a conference room that morning and found it full of HR reps and stacks of envelopes. We were all surprised. Nobody on this site knows anything useful. Be ready for anything.

Isn’t VH supposed to step down in Q2 2026. Then after that there will be a reorg and layoffs.

No, but it sure is fun getting bite after bite from oxy employees throwing tantrums on this board when you push their many sore spots on the company they work for.

People I talk to say no, but I really don't think they would tell us if they knew. I pesonally think a reorg is coming and who knows if there is anyone left standing after that. It is what it is and there is not much any of us worker bees can do about it, so it is a waste of energy and time to speculate on any of it. Best thing to do is keep your head down and do your job. The job market is terrible and not having a job if you need one would make for some tough times.
