Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Are more store closings really coming?

It wouldn’t be surprising. Someone mentioned another 300 shutting down next year, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the final number ends up even higher. What’s really stopping them from shutting everything down and switching fully to the non-corp model? Either way, the uncertainty and anxiety just keep dragging on.

Only the united states has cell phone stores. It is time for the American consumer to learn to do things on there own. If you cant figure out a basic cellphone in 2025 you are lost.

I hope so. They are a poor representation of what VZ stands for. Most were run with wasteful layers of management likely unsuited to operate a small market mall kiosk location such as Piercing Pagoda or Sunglass Hut and the sales staff are little more than grifters. I realize 3rd party is hardly better, sales people are shady by nature, but at least put some plausible deniability between VZ and these shady operators. These people were never technology people. Any half wit with little conscience can be trained to slam customers and sell them unneeded products. They had their time in the sun ruining this fine company's reputation. Good riddance!

@ht judging how Flex, OMNI and ACSS works they have no idea. IT would have to be competent to execute that plan.

Retail will be shifting to the “Apple” model”. Only a small amount of corporate stores in the company will be left. Those locations will be centered in larger metropolitan areas with many supporting agent stores surrounding. It gives the presence of large scale verizon but with heavily reduced expenses and increased profits.

This is how they will make up for a NEW simplified pricing structure and reduced plan costs for customers. Verizon will also be heavily reducing its marketing presence for local events/sports and music.

Verizon will be moving to a lean model similar to a prepaid provider that allows a customer to “ideally” do things self serve or with little to none human interaction.
You

This will all only work assuming verizon invents in a stable online platform/app and POS system to allow for minimal issues ( not sure if they realize this part). The intend for AI chat bots and calling systems to be able to process most customer service calls and most chat/call purchases ( that’s their hope).

@cz Agreed! I started at NYNEX back in 1985 and there was no such thing as a company store. All stores were installation centers (if you can believe it ) run by agents. I guess what comes around, goes around!

100% confirmation that more stores will be divested after Q1 2026 and beyond.

My agent that took my location over already disclosed that the company would be picking up x amount of new stores after the first quarter.

It’s too bad there isn’t a bet on Kalshi because I would bet my entire severance on it.

Most direct locations are being sold to Indirects or "premium retailers". The rest will be closed. Verizon wants out of brick and mortor.

What’s to stop closing all company Stores? Profit and control of kpis . We have millions of customers to support and want to grow more . We need stores to do this . Don’t mistake shifting business to shutting it down.
