If we all band together and collectively don’t follow the 8 hours in office, it’ll create so much extra work for mangers, hr, etc. The documented discussions, write ups, pips, involving HR.
They are already extremely tired of hearing and talking about RTO.
I’m not saying don’t go in at all or coffee badge. Get your 3/4 days in and stay 4-6 hours. But don’t do anymore. Show them that we are willing to go in and put our time in but not for 8 hours.
If you’re slacking off and working 2 hours a day just say that. YOU are the reason they are doing this.
It’s a very simple requirement and people abused it.

100% remote for years prior to COVID. So yes, I very much remember exactly what it was like when this place wasn't run by complete A holes.
I got news for you. They don't give an F if you go to the office or not. They want to torment you until you quit. If it doesn't work, they'll downsize you anyway. Either way, you go. Compliance isn't relevant, unless you're willing to move to I&P and take a pay cut.

For those that cry out that this was the office life pre-Covid, I would submit to you that after the combustible engine was invented people didn't go back to hose and carriage's (except the Amish).
Additionally there are no assigned desks, when people went to the office before they'd have an office or a desk where they could set up and not worry if some stranger sat there taking up any available seating.

@em some people fresh out of college never experienced pre covid working. They’ve only ever experienced hybrid work.
Also, just because we used to do something a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the better or only way.
It’s human nature to evolve. Why can’t that involve hybrid work for those that want it? If you want to go into the office everyday 8 hours a day, knock your socks off. Others may want hybrid. Give people the choice to decide what gives them the best quality of life.
We’ve been doing hybrid work now for 5 years. And you expect everyone to just be blindly onboard with turning the clocks back? Not to mention pre covid, no one’s time and mouse clicks were being monitored in the office unless you worked in a call center. I don’t know anyone person outside of the call center or investment banking that stayed in the office for 8 hours pre covid.
At this point, I would gladly go back to pre covid if it meant all the tracking and checking in would go away.

Noncompliance has not been a factor in the decision to tighten the sc--ws. At all. They might say it is, but they are habitual liars. The only thing that matters is the voluntary attrition rate. If it drops below the number HY wants, they torment us more. It's as simple as that.
We all need to understand that this is not an employee vs employee issue, it's an executive vs all the rest of us issue.

Several of my coworkers got written up for not staying in the office for at least 6 hours. People dont wanna lose their jobs.
This is what we should have done post COVID with RTO. 100% noncompliance. Instead, we collectively bent the knee. How'd that work out for us?
