Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Some Regrets

Once upon a time, WFB was a great company to work for. I worked through many bank mergers and changes. Most all team members worked hard but were recognized and rewarded fairly. In late 2019, things started changing. Layoffs, change in benefits, Severance times were reduced, etc...then the pandemic happened. My biggest regret is not seeing the writing on the wall. I regret working 12+ hours/day for days on end to meet quarterly deadlines. I regret not speaking up to advocate for others and myself. I regret not job searching early on, thinking I'd be able to reach full retirement age. at WF I regret not moving my 401K to another institution as soon as age permitted. I regret not contributing more to Roth vs. conventional 401k (biggest regret!). I regret not furthering my education to pursue other opportunities.

What I don't regret are all the amazing people I worked with over the years and still keep in touch with to this day. I sure miss the company WF used to be. The Holiday parties, office lunches, employee-family picnics, bowling and softball nights...it once was a lot of fun and an enjoyable place to work. I looked forward to going into work. Unfortunately, today's generation will never know what that kind workplace culture.

After 30+ years, I was displaced before I could reach FRA. It's been over a year since displacement and after hundreds of job applications, not one interview. Yes, I've worked with job coaches, AI, etc...but unfortunately young senior's are not wanted except for Wallmart greeter type jobs.

I loved my job and the people I worked with, received great reviews, tolerated little if no raises, but would have been grateful to say I was able to fully retire from there. I don't miss the RTO mandates, feeling like big brother was constantly watching, the micro-managing managers the last few years, constant manager turnover, and just the overall toxicity in the office. This is my last post, then I'm off this site. Not looking for any mean or sarcastic comments. I just wanted to vent and get my thoughts out so I can move on and not look back. Good Luck to all of you who are still working, especially the long-timers if there are still any 30+ TM's out there.

Remember Schart's multiple comments about Wells being a cult? The layoffs, quiet firings, etc, are part of his overarching plan to re-educate and "fundamentally transform" the company to a Wall St bank like his daddy's (Dimon).

This is all due to him and his sycophantic su-kups.

All because of those God damned lawyers. They sued Wells of fraud practice and they got a lot of money. And then wells fargo's disaster started. CXO's were forced to leave and replaced with evil management from outside of WF.. Mass lay offs started. In the end it's the employees who are the victims.

Seems many trace the downfall as starting in 2019. Charlie Sharted started October 2019. I long for his departure.

@ga successfully proving a distributed, technology-enabled workforce could continue to put out the same level of work scared management. They were no longer as important as they thought they were, thus they needed to "recalibrate" what being a successful employee was.

Why pay executives big salaries if they aren't gallivanting around the country, making their peons perform for them?

WFH threatens the power structure of the wealthy.

Something triggered along the way that made all this happened the way it has. It's almost 2019 everything seems okay then seemingly on purpose they're like 2020 start dismantling the corporation systemically on purpose.

What sense does it make to take what was working (been operating and improving since 1852) and then go mess with it so much it's in the condition it's in now.
It's not sustainable, I think it will be defunct in another decade.

@c6 no room for "their" racist s-xist beliefs because your racist beliefs need all the room

You know when the culture changed. When they started importing the third world into our offices. Hard to have a softball team with a bunch of guys who are shouting in Hindi and don't know how to hit a ball. They stick to themselves and don't adapt to the culture. They bring their racist s-xist beliefs into the office.

You regret too much. You worked here a long time and got paid for it, maybe even well. We all need to disconnect from these corporations personally. It's just business. You go to work and you get a paycheck. Nothing more. They wanted to create that culture and it works both ways.

Good post conveys my feelings. Started here only in 2017 and left mid 2024 as things really did get worse in 2019 as OP states. I retired, had some early retirement from
My previous employer so used it for medical.
What a total sh show and so thankful neither of my kids are in IT and especially thankful they aren’t working for this sack of s_

I remember when they used to announce long term employees like it was a good thing. Now it’s seen as a negative.

The OPs situation should be a lesson for every single young worker reading it. Never assume that you'll leave on your terms from any job. Save and invest accordingly. No one is coming to bail you out when corporate America is done with you. Save save save.

@a5, I've been pre-notified that I'm also on the list, but my manager can't provide any details other than "we'll know more in the beginning of the 4Q". Seems strange to me that they're waiting. Not sure why?

27 years here, supposed to be displaced next month (the third time I've been scheduled for it this year, alone).

I work with two 30+ year employees who aren't scheduled to be displaced simply because they live near offices in other states.

The death of the workplace culture has been something to witness.

I am sorry to hear, OP! Once the shock wears off, I am confident that you will look at your situation differently. You will be happy it happened when it happened. Good luck!
