Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Business Services to AFO in Southeast

Does anyone know when the DTs are merging into AFO? I hate to see this because we will be treated like Wiretechs.

Umm, DTs have been glorified, higher paid wire techs for about 6 years now. There are DTs that can barely spell ASE, couldn’t run a span line to save their life, have no clue what an Intelliport or OCUDP is, couldn’t tell you the difference between a B channel and a D channel & have never set foot inside a psap, but they’re well versed in $50 a month no contract non designed uverse.

What does a Digital tech actually do? Do you need a degree to be a Digital Tech?

With the new technology it should be possible if the techs profiles are set up correctly. If a tech can be dispatched on a job they are qualified for why not. Don’t see the necessity of numerous dispatch systems, job titles, etc. Lot of info to get right though. Perhaps AI at some point can take that info down to a granular enough level so that can happen efficiently.

@OP I have a feeling they are working toward combining wire techs and digital techs into one title.
