Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I've been remote my entire 2 decade + career. It is incredibly difficult to find remote work right now, with the stupid RTO trend. When you do find a legit remote posting, it's usually a contract, and it gets inundated by applicants immediately, the competition has never been this high. It really doesn't matter which job board you use, they all have the same jobs on them, most of which are ghost jobs. It would be much better to try and develop relationships with recruiters for companies that still have a remote workforce. Eventually things will go back to remote again, but for now you have to ride the wave and may need to consider hybrid.

@cw these basic capabilities have been available for 10 years. AI is massively overhyped for the capability it delivers. You’re a buzzword believing fool.

@bn over 90% of companies still operate in a hybrid or work from home model today, not 5x8, and this is not changing either. Only 5% operate in 5x8 today. Your claim is false and will always be called out as such. Why lie?

“ Come on guys. Yes. I do not have a clue and this is not for fun.“

I am sorry that you were laid off. Many of us may be right behind you. That said, it’s hard for me to fathom that you seemingly didn’t prepare for this in anyway (judging by your comment and your original question).

As you’re finding out, the current job market is extremely tough. And if you are limiting yourself to only fully remote positions…well, you just made it even tougher. There aren’t as many of them and you have even more competition.

Do you have a personal network built up on LinkedIn. LinkedIn can be a cesspool, especially now but that personal network of people is really the most important thing you’re going to need to land your next job. It is always “who you know” that can get you in the door to interview. Always. If you are blindly applying online, especially in this market…you have no chance.

“RTO is becoming the industry standard.”

Structured hybrid is still the industry standard.

Artificial Intelligence is taking over remote jobs. Look it up on Google or ask ChatGPT. Customer service & call centers, Chatbots and AI assistants can handle large volumes of queries. Data entry & administrative support. Automation reduces the need for manual input.Basic content writing & translation. Large language models generate drafts, summaries, and translations quickly.Graphic design for simple assets. AI image generators can produce logos, ads, and social media visuals. America doesn't need lazy people anymore. Ai works 24 hours a day, forever, and doesn't complain.

OP are you crazy? Very few, if any, fully remote jobs available anywhere.

RTO is becoming the industry standard. You will not find many options for fully remote. Companies expect you to work.

Come on guys. Yes. I do not have a clue and this is not for fun. It's what happens when you don't search for a job for 20 years.
