@yk If you are doing a high contribution to retirement, you can reduce it down to the 401K match amount and get a little bit more back in your severance check.
@vd The only way half of your severence check is going to withholdings is if you are a higher tax bracket or state with a high tax rate. I agree it can be 40%.
@bg They gave me 6 weeks after 8 years. My friend who worked at UHC for 2 decades was unfairly placed on a CAP after she took a short leave when her spouse passed away. Then they wrote her up upon return and let her go. That’s how despicable UHG is! This is a common occurrence. 0 empathy and the good people get eaten alive by the psychopaths.
@vy It’s at least 40%. I was laid off and I know! Half was an analogy. But you are missing the point! The average package here now ranges between 2 and 6 weeks. That’s disgusting! Let’s not argue about the tax when the package is ATROCIOUS! Every single person that argues about packages still works there 😆. Go through it then come back and talk.
@vd No it is not taxed at 50%, that is crazy false information.
@vd "They pay it in a lumpsum so half of it goes to tax".
In addition, in some states you have to wait out the severance period before you can collect on Unemployment bennies. Bigger tax burden thus less to live on while you wait for unemployment to kick in.
@ge Yes, it’s trash. They offer less than a week per year of service and with no medical insurance. That’s before tax. They pay it in a lumpsum so half of it goes to tax. If you are a people manager then you get more. This company is so, so gross!
@bg so what is the “severance” pay entail? They told me they would pay me for two weeks and that’s all they said
@bg same thing happened to me! I had to call my team lead to tell her
@ef and @eg- I’m so sorry you were impacted after that many year service. If people can get laid off after that many years of loyal service anyone can. I suspect both of you are over the age of 40-45 which adds injury to insult. I’m curious to see if anyone will seek arbitration or contact a class action attorney to address this? Also curious to what departments you worked in. Good luck to you both, and all of the others that were impacted yesterday and today.
Why are we so convinced? Because I was laid off yesterday after 18 years of service- that’s how.
I got an org change email but it got recalled! Guess they sent it to the wrong person as I have a common name. Or it's a sign i am in next.. WTF! This company is really a horrible toxic cess pool, they can't even manage the layoffs emails people. And my manager is the biggest id--t you'll ever meet. And super annoying with his ”,pls acknowledge ” for every IM he sends.. get the hint if people don't respond to you you fu--ing mo--n.
@OP Because some of us were. Me for example. Had NO clue and my supervisor didnt even know. How sorry is that! I work for Optum 36 years ago and got laid off! I started as wellmed and they switched to Optum. I knew then I was sc--wed and told all of my coworkers the same and here we are
@b9 Thank You!!!!
@b9 I sent my team members a message on teams as soon as I found out I was laid off. I was caught by surprise. I should have known when I got a "Invite" for Organization update I was being laid off (I worked for Optum 3 years ago and got laid off). My team lead didnt even know. Thats how cr-ppy Optum is!!!
@an It's most definitely corporate greed and use your network, if u have one. This is how u land your next job. I am mot trying to add further stress I too was laid off from here and sat here on this post feeling relieved to finally be done, optimistic about my future and skeptical and nervous at the same time. Believe in you, know what you bring, knowledge, skills, experience and USE your network. Find the names of the partners your worked with and reach out and leverage those connections. CLOSED MOUTHS even virtually, does not get fed. I wish u well and you got this!
@b5 Just because your team doesn’t get RIFs on these dates doesn’t mean they are fake. UHG does this on rotation, but trust me some team(s) are getting hit. They’ve been laying off steadily every single month since mid last year! UHG has over 150 sub groups!
@b5 and yet most of the dates are turning out to be true!
I'm @a4. Seems like people took what I said the wrong way. I will admit I've never spread any fake dates and what I was trying to convey was a lot of people here throw out untrue RIF dates on this forum often. Apologies to those offended by my comment.
@a4 you are next! Shame on you for mocking others.

@ap I’m one of those laid off this morning at 9am
@ar same!
@an OI Operations, former CHC employee.
@aj East Texas Utilization

To those that are reporting they were laid off today. I am very sorry, but you’ll be OK. Remember to file for unemployment, unless of course you’re planning on staying and find a job quickly internally. also remember this has nothing to do with you. It’s all about corporate greed. And lastly, to those that have commented they’ve been laid off, what department are you in?
If you could say what areas that would be helpful and grade. Such as RX grade 27. Seems bigger than expected.
@aj all across the board.
What departments?
@a4 I hope you get cut as well! You deserve it!
I was cut today as well. Not a shock with the way it’s been happening. This company is trash. I still think the hack was an inside job and it out the wheels in motion for all of this. DOJ are id--ts for allowing the merge to happen.
this job is no longer worth the stress anymore. You aren't kept based on your production but more so probably your pay grade or if you were a CHC employee and merged. The pay is no better at this point.
@a8 and East Texas. I just got laid off!
Just lost 4 from our office
@a4 it’s not a rumor! I just got laid off’
@a8 I just got laid off!
I just got laid off as well due to loss of contract not work performance
It is happening. I just got cut
