Asking to be laid off

Is it possible to just ask to be laid off? We all know it's coming, is there a way we can just be added to the top of the list? My manager says there isn't a list, I dont believe him
I'd rather enjoy my summer than worry about if I'm next every other week.

I don’t know how the actual people are selected for layoffs - feel HR owns some of that, but there are lists of employee performance which are considered. Honestly, I would have the conversation with your manager. If you are meeting requirements they won’t risk firing your for cause but they might push you to the top of the list they share with HR.

@bf Their goal is terminate not paying severance. If you are the target, They will find cause. It's a waiting game for them, Not you

Tuesday after payday, March 31, 2026. The end of the first quarter, the end of many careers. Our boss's, boss's Big boss will be visiting us. The end is near for us. That's when it always happens.

There is no Turning back from the forced stack ranking and curve - the trust and collaboration is gone -
Get your a-s in gear and find something new as it’s only going to get worse - don’t let them to continue to control the narrative

I asked my manager. He said they get a list of who they need to displace. Some managers were displaced recently in the center I work in. They then consolidate teams until we are all asked to leave when the center closes in the near future. In advance, NO, I'm not saying which center or location. All I can say is bring on the Golden Ticket. Anonymous.

I thought it was the only one. All my friends are gone. Now its a army of Indians. I dont like how they work, everything is for show, email 30 disros for something minor, have 50 Jiras instead of 1. I just want to work hard with good people and be rewarded. Most the mgmt here has nill banking experience, they send out emails weekly about nonsense, they hire new clowns under them who shouldn't be in mgmt. Shareholders should be deeply concerned when the best people with all the knowledge dream of getting g a package.

Same here. Told my manager don’t mind a package but will never quit or give them cause to fire me. This is a waiting game, already been waiting since 2023, will keep waiting.

You absolutely can volunteer to your manager. Doesn’t mean anything will happen. I know of people who have begged to be displaced and were and still are kept. I know of others who have volunteered and they fell into the niche where the manager swapped their name with another and they were let go. It seems more like people who got what they wished for were just lucky that it aligned vs it being direct interaction from the manager.

I have seen it work. Depends on your boss and their ability. If you have known your boss for a while and trust them, talk to them in private.

For the last time people: reverse psychology is your friend. If you actually tell them you'd like to be laid off, now they know you are willing and looking to leave, and that waiting you out is the best alternative for them to save the severance expenses. On the other hand, if you make it clear that you'll never leave, no matter what, because you love your job too much and you want to work at WF until you're 120, then they realize that the severance sooner rather than later is the cheapest possible option for them.

Over several years, they've laid off 70k employees and bragged about it on every earnings call. Don't you think if they wanted volunteers, you'd have heard by now?

Two managers ago (read ~14 months) I was told by my manager that he'd work to make it happen if I wanted it. I wish I had that option now.

I wish. I'd have taken it ages ago and been much better off mentally if it was an option. The threat of termination has been looming for YEARS with zero consideration for the employees
wellbeing impacted. At this point I'm just gonna ride it out till they give me what is deserved and keep documentation of EVERYTHING because we all know a class action will be coming down the pipe on this sh-t-show.

Sure ...it's called voluntary termination and you don't get severance

Heck no- their goal is to avoid severance so they aren’t going to make it that easy for you! The higher-ups will continue to make the culture worse, make the management style more toxic, implement more strict RTO rules, and use PIP’s to make people quit.
