Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

ATT/Network Co offers.

Union employees, if you get an offer, and decline, you are not guaranteed a job with Lumen.

Non union, if you get a job offer and decline, you lose your job.

Some people take what they read and read into it, then put their spin on it and repeat it to others. About 20 percent of what is posted on this sight is true. Very similar to social media in general.

Sell off the MM tech work to ATT then make the L3 tech work whats left of MM. You bust the union up with clean hands. It sounds like the union days are numbered if any of these posts are True related to not accepting a ATT offer.

NetworkCo will most likely not be union.

Not sure it matters if theres ties between lumen and att. And does anyone even care? If ATT wants to spin off the old US West states to a third party then theyll do that day one. Call it non union if they want. Put it all under one umbrella and make any employees that move att employees if they want. I'm sure their lawyers have it already figured out as to whether they can go non union and avoid lawsuits. Especially in non right to work states. None of us know how its going to go down til it does.

What is a union?

@ez Look at the fines for gigapower in Az. And yes, that would be the business model. And in 2 years the ties between Lumen and at&t would be cut.
Google it for more info.

A gigapower business model is a possibility. ATT can sell the access to whatever isp can scrounge up a couple guys with trucks to connect it. The caveat here is att will solely own the local network which needs a daily workforce. Remains to be seen if they can pull off NetworkCo bein non union. Lots of redtape and different laws in differenst states regarding collective bargaining. The difference with gigapower is att selling only fiber access outside their territory where they dont have a presence other than virtually. We'll see how it works out. I dont think its cut and dried either way. May take a couple years before the dust has settled

Get an offer for what? Job offer? Buyout offer? Free beer for life?

But he’s one of those experts with his ear to the ground. In the know. Most likely low level management, and everyone is supposed to trust the word of an anonymous peon posting on the internet.

“For those that get an offer, it may not necessarily be for att. If it's for NetworkCo, you can bet it will be non union. Take it or find another job. Just look at Gigapower”

Nah, I’ll just stay where I am. Why do you care? Why so hard pressed to convince anyone they need to move or lose their job?
Guess what? If they announce a layoff they gotta pay me off. Gladly take that money and ride off into the sunset.
Besides, who wants to be a prem tech for att light. Only thing worse would be sitting at a desk all day staring at a screen.

So if you’re a union member and elect to stay with lumen under an existing contract you’re not guaranteed to keep your job?Sure, there may be a layoff right away. Maybe a year later. Maybe 3 years. But the same dolts that come on here every week with their doom and gloom posting their opinions as facts are just that. Dolts! And if you take that job at NetworkCo? Are any of you dolts convinced there won’t be a layoff a week after you move? I’ll stay right where I’m at thanks.

@e9 You must not be a union member. NetworkCo will be union. As it is a new company the union contract will have to be bargained for.

No, I am not the OP but know how to read. The OP got those statements from the 9/22 update on the transition website. It doesn't get any clearer. The OP wasn't pulling it out of their ar-e.

@cr

For those that get an offer, it may not necessarily be for att. If it's for NetworkCo, you can bet it will be non union. Take it or find another job. Just look at Gigapower

"With Gigapower, AT&T — one of the largest investors in fiber in America — and BlackRock — one of the largest investors in infrastructure — have come together through a joint venture to deliver access to super-fast, reliable, high-capacity fiber to more communities"

Read the FAQs from the recent town hall, this post is 100% accurate. You can deny and cry all you want but the company put that in writing.

“Union employees, if you get an offer, and decline, you are not guaranteed a job with Lumen.”

OP’s quote. I read that as if you have a job under a union contract with lumen and decline an offer to goto Networkco you are not guaranteed to have a job at lumen. Since you are probably the OP responding what do you mean by that? I’m sure you will backpeddle and be vague and say you meant there will be layoffs etc etc. so no, the only dense one here seems to be you and your kindergarten gaslighting attenpts.

@bz You are the dense one.
If a union employee goes to att, they will be covered under that contract.
Netwrkco contract will need to be bargained for ie a new contract.

@aq

Are you really that dense? Is that what the OP said? No, obviously if you leave Lumen and go to another company you are not covered by current contract, and there is no guarantee you will even be union.

So all union contracts null and void? Or won’t be bargaining new ones?
