On good authority, no layoffs in July except for sales

@bh I will say this as well - if you (as sales) have PS doing your quotes, quit. Just leave. Let them get everything. I'm glad it sounds like yours get something for doing both but there are stories of AEs coasting off PS work. Just as mi h as licensing. Maybe I'm usually dealing with the worst PS folks and it's not your team. May never know.

But I don't support leeches regardless of which dept.

@cs (I'll separate the PS part)

As for Professional services. From what I can see:

Overbooked
They can't pick their projects for stuff they know
They often do not or cannot do support checks nor confirm if the order was done yet.

And it was mentioned earlier - we absolutely see cloud or PS people loading nicer internal keys into customer environments It makes a mess for us as well as whoever came to get their proper key. We can tell. I know we don't have much of a Compliance team anymore but please stop before you get every PS person purged. That is a 'millions-to-billions lost' level mistake sometimes. Almost always that internal key is nicer, so you gave really good freebies.

But that is an Opentext Problem [tm]. If the PS folks don't have good resources- yeah we're going to be better. If Sales doesnt know what they sold we're looking better. By virtue of having that extra time and experience. But that's only a good thing if it's rewarded. And it's not rn.

It's not the kind answer but the only way that's getting addressed is probably if we stop the extra services and potentially lose deals/accounts over it. We're not suddenly getting re-valued to make up for it.

It's that or work with Partners and Resellers so directly that we get poached for license management. Which yeah we also could do really really well.

@bh Howdy. Licensing person here

What you get is a mix. Some of us absolutely have additional knowledge, the ability to walk both tech support and PS how to get key details, install, and sometimes troubleshoot. Some also kinda miss nuance that another region has to go fix. Thing is:

That is technically not our job. We're not even supposed to be in technical calls since we're not intended to be able to on our own. We do not have software access to learn. We should not be having to sell better than PS, AEs, or be better at explaining Renewals Contracts than their department. Absolutely happens though.

We do not get recognition/kickbacks for any of that we just have more people coming to us on top of cases we already took. And we as the caseholder get punished for every question PS or Sales miss. Because any response re-opens the case. Unless you get help from one of the regions who close cases almost immediately. In that case, sorry.

We do have really good people here, but, we've also lost a lot of our tenured folks overtime. You don't really move in a dept like this. While it is good that we have some of that left, maybe we need to see why the license team is being used as a crutch? Doesn't look good for customers, burns us out faster, and some of us probably could move into other roles.

We actually have to hire for those though. And that's catering to NA and the US where jobs are going away. Your licensing team is CA, US, Cork, and Manila. Some of those teams are too small to permit that for now. Even if it'd be mutually beneficial.

I’ve always wondered why there are license and PS sales. A good rep can easily cover both. In fact my license reps that know what they are doing sell PS because they get comped on it:

@b2 only sales affected. Very small layout off in July. Around 50 people

Nothing of note has been divested or announced.

The resulting consolidation and reorganisation won’t provide everybody outside of sales with a chair when the music stops.

Nobody is safe.
