@cw they are redundant in the sense that the company hired and trained people to do the same jobs in India. I can smell the customer delight from here.

@OP if that is what NRB is, then it is a group with redundancy..therr are other groups doing the same across the org. And that explains what happened.

For those who clearly don’t understand what the NRB is and what it means to Verizon Wireless :

Its primary role is to serve as the highly technical "command center" responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and fixing the core infrastructure that keeps voice, data, and internet services running.Key Functions of the NRBInfrastructure Diagnostics: Monitoring large-scale fiber-optic lines, copper wires, central offices, and cell towers for outages or performance drops.Remote Troubleshooting: Fixing complex routing, software, and connectivity issues directly from a central network operations center without needing to visit the physical site.Dispatching Field Technicians: Acting as the direct link to field operations. When a problem cannot be fixed remotely, the NRB coordinates and dispatches local field technicians to repair physical equipment on poles, in manholes, or at central hubs.Escalation Support: Serving as a high-level tier of technical support for business, government, and residential network failures that standard customer service agents cannot resolve.Who Works in the NRB?The department is largely staffed by network engineers, technical dispatchers, data analysts, and specialized telecom controllers who understand the end-to-end architecture of a massive communications network.

A lot of experienced people were cut today. Sad day for a once proud company. Ever since india took over tool support and now they’re going to support customer issues, More churn and layoffs in the future folks!

May be more in the next few months or end of year. Apparently from what I've heard Global Technology Services or whatever it's called based in India is working on AI to replace a good chunk of front end development and other IT departments. This is definitely a sinking ship thank to the hype train of AI.

This group worked very close with regular customers and large enterprises. If Verizon’s goal is to be customer obsessed this move will surely not delight the customer. Didn’t Verizon get the memo sent out in the early 2000s that offshoring critical customer groups that directly interact with customers is never received well? What’s Dan’s next strategic move, prepping for Y2K?

NRB: Network Repair Bureau is the clunky name of the customer tech support team that helps customers when they have issues with devices not connecting, low throughput, connection drops, etc…
