Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Very bad layoff packages and requirements

Since Andrew left, and he only led for approximately 4.5 years or so, the treatment of employees has gone down to the gutter. The only period in which employees were treated fairly was during his tenure. Look up the history of UHG leadership and you will see what I’m saying. I was recently laid off after working here for 15 years. They not only offered me 5 weeks of pay, they put very “questionable language” in my layoff package.
Accepting their layoff package is accepting more abuse on the way out.
• If they get sued you should be on their side.
• If you were mistreated and (I’m watering this part down) or if you saw someone being mistreated, by accepting their severance you are saying it never happened.
• If you catch wind of them potentially being sued, you should warn them
• Also they added that you should not expect any payment for any of this! hahahahaha!!!!!!
• And if they call you for help with work after you’ve left, you have 48 hours to get back to them and help. This is teetering on… “fill in the blanks”…. and not even enforceable!
Who do their lawyers think they are? Very thuggish! I asked others that were laid off with me and they had similar language. And one that worked for 3 years only got 2 weeks worth of a paycheck.
This is all provable and true! To those of you still there, this is how they treat you after years of service, that’s if they don’t put you on a CAP or PIP to manage you out like someone said in a post on the UHG link here. They did this recently to my friend who worked in UHC for 25 years!

@1a3 Wow, that sounds terrible. Glad it's a paycheck at least but please keep looking. You deserve better! They did the same in another group I was in.

A year ago I would have been laid off if I didn't accept a position in another department. What they did is have folks who didn't take phone calls and put them on the phone. There were some who quit or looked for other jobs. I feel it was on purpose to Shrink the jobs thru attrition and therefore not not have to pay a severence.

I am not a lawyer. But I’d highly recommend an employment lawyer looking at that

@ab Agree! Get rid of the unscrupulous, snake-like, or rather vermin-like lawyers and hire ethical people. And better yet, seek to return to being an ethical company at the highest level of leadership and let your example be filtered down to the employees.

Who knows, maybe someone above will see and bless this corporation. Do you have it in you? Or are you smugly giggling at this post in complete derision?

@gv You must not know how unions work. They put into place contracts that will protect onshore workers by not allowing/minimizing offshore hires.

Unions will not help with market share. As operational costs go up with unions more contractors and offshore will need to be hired to cut the cost.

@b5 I hear you. However Hemsley and Wichmann’s salaries were/are 30 million a year! Witty was only 1/3rd of that. We need to do two things, healthcare reform: break these companies down or eliminate them altogether, and unionize. Put the power back in the hands of employees. Also, there are still huge issues with Witty and Thompson gone.

@OP WITTY belongs in prison like many others who defrauded tax payers, employees all over the US who REALLY PAY FOR HEALTHCARE and investors.

Excuse my typo. I meant to say: in a package of someone who has served you. Either way, you catch my drift. These lawyers are helping this company sink to the ground, acting like ruthless thugs. You catch more flies with honey, not vinegar. Kindness wins, not evil. Evil wins in the short-term but with steep consequences downstream. Do better!

I wholeheartedly believe this company hires a lot of psychopathic attorneys. What foolishness is this to put in a packages of someone you are sending off after they’ve served you? Not to mention former employees + doctors discussing how they received threatening letters from these lawyers for speaking up. Ridiculous! Comical and Sad at the same time. You can put out 100 commercials but it won’t change the horrible perception you have earned from people. Fire all these lawyers and get new ethical ones. That’s the only way you can repair the damage you’ve done.

Go to this same post on the Optum link. There seems to be more engagement there on this subject. We really need unions again. These companies are outsourcing so many jobs to India, then using AI. Not sure what these fools think will keep them in business if 50-75% of the workforce end up with no jobs. Pure insanity!

And they added that they won’t pay you after you “call them back and help them within that required 48 hours” hahahahahahah!!! Thuggish Comedians work here in the form of “lawyers”
