Start looking for your next role today, but do not quit. The market is absolutely awful, worse than it looks from the inside. I was laid off and with twenty years in the field, it still took me forever to land something new. Being unemployed puts you at a huge disadvantage from the start. Keep your current seat warm until you've secured another one.

For the dim person that posts this all the time….do you understand that in WalMart management it is possible to become quite wealthy?
That’s because they have a good salary as well as an excellent annual bonus and stock grant program for managers. And a stock that actually appreciates in value (163% in just the past 5 years).
They are certainly doing a lot better than the management on our retail side of the business.
Suffice to say this isn’t at all the put down you seem to think it is.
@g5 How the heck would you know if it's "been that way for 30-40 years?" You probably aren't even that old. And if you are, you should be picking out your assisted living retirement home according to your own comments.
BTW, Gen Z balances it out anti-anxiety meds, ADHD meds, SSRIs, and therapy benefits.
@ea Cite your source a--hole, because that is completely false. You're probably the same guy who said that 80% were over 50 back in 2024.
According the the 10-k filed in 2024, the numbers for 2023 are:
Percent (under) 30 years old: 13.69%
Percent 30–50 years old: 53.19%
Percent (over) 50 years old: 33.12%
And guess what, at TON of over 50 have left in the last 2 years. There was no data available for 2024, since that metric wasn't in the 10-k filed in 2025. This year's has not been posted yet.
Bottom line if you are above 45 you are no longer employable. This has been the case for 30 to 40 tears. It’s sad but the realty you cost to much and your medical cost are on the rise.
I got a job a month after getting laid off. Gen Z here and it’s definitely possible as long as u continue leetcoding and system design. My new job is hybrid too with a much better WLB too. Just make sure to network with the right people and keep grinding.

It really depends on where you live. If you are in ATL, you will never find a job there. LinkedIn is a cesspool for begging for jobs from people with 500+ connections. I see people with software engineering degrees and still struggle to find a job. You'd think it'd be easier if you are in IT or engineering yet I see those people submit 500+ applications in a span of 6 months to a year, how much more a bottom barrel overage AT&T employees with no IT degree whatsoever? It is not HARD anymore, it is beyond that, I'd say it is IMPOSSIBLE. So, if you are going to retire in 2 to 3 yrs, just stay and go with the flow. Millenials and Gen Z, do not quit unless you get another gig, no matter how much your ego and pride hurts. IT IS BRUTAL OUT THERE.
In the past month I have had 3 big tech companies reachout as I have been circulating my resume for the past year. I am going to hold on and retire early as I do not want to start over again at this time. I think it depends on where you reside and where you are looking. There are jobs out there if you want to move but one job offered WFH and one was hybrid.

The private sector netted 0 new jobs in Biden’s last year. It was all govt hiring
