Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I take comfort in...

I think my chances are about 50/50 of being impacted today.

I started at the very bottom and worked my way up over 28 years. In that time, I’ve held—and mastered—multiple roles. These roles allowed me to learn how everything works. I’m one of the few people who truly understands how everything works end-to-end.

I’ve built many systems and processes here that only I fully understand.

So if today is the day I’m “promoted to customer,” I take comfort in knowing Verizon is fu---d. I won’t be here to take anyone's calls, explain how something works, or why it was designed a certain way. I won’t be handing out contacts or filling in gaps or giving out recommendations on solutions to complex issues.

And I also take comfort knowing I’m not alone in feeling this way. A lot of people know where the bodies are buried—and they won’t be helping either.

Good luck.

@OP good to know you care so much about the time you invested and the millions of people relying on the company to be successful. You are a great human...

@OP unfortunately your knowledge doesn’t matter. I was a team of 1 for five years supporting some majority parts of VZ infrastructure that was used across the company. They offered me a package and I left after a year. They don’t know or necessarily care about the knowledge that they let walk out the door or end of cutting. They called it collateral damage. Getting rid of account teams and customer facing people is the reason their business is declining but they either can’t connect the DOTs or don’t care. That salary they think you are saving can also mean lossed revenue.

"promoted to customer" I appreciate that. Ive known some good dudes over the almost 3 decades of working here. Witnessed a few walk out the door and I am actively seeing what this company is becoming. All the while, the climbers and politically correct hires who have ZERO ACTUAL EXPERIENCE get promoted, shuffled from role to role, waist budgets, and make choices that continue to set this company back, over and over. Clearly a sinking ship

The point was, this is how I am going to cope and find comfort.

If people on this forum are going to have posts on here talking about how they cannot sleep or they will be smoking pot to relax, then im going to do what is therapeutic for me and vent in my way.

If you wanted to hear gossip and rumors, don't click on the post titled "I take comfort in..."

Everyone is grieving!!! Grief is the experience of coping with loss.

Most of us think of grief as happening in the painful period following the death of a loved one. But grief can accompany any event that disrupts or challenges our sense of normalcy or ourselves. This includes the loss of connections that define us.

What was the point of this comment? Were you selling yourself? You should probably do that on LinkedIn, not the layoff website? Congrats on knowing a bunch. I know a bunch as well. Guaranteed you are no safer than I am. Hope we both make it through, but damn, man. Go put those details in your resume. Not here. No one cares here.

And it will continue on without you if you're gone, problem is a lot of people here think they are indispensable, but reality is you're not.
