Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

I don't understand the decisions anymore

Some of the choices coming from management are genuinely hard to understand. I've worked in this industry for years and I've never felt this disconnected from the people making the decisions.

@jq Her clothes are downright ugly. The last suit I saw her in looked like old drapes made into a suit. And they are all the same suit pattern with huge a-s lapels. I don’t feel bad making fun of someone who has all that money but still can’t get a better style. Downvote me I don’t care.

@jq did she tell that staff that her research showed that instead of a decent tip they would prefer promotions without pay, new learning opportunities or a new job title!

@c1 Gail thinks she deserves it - take a look at her sprawling mansion, her driver, her designer clothes. None of it gives her an ounce of class. Sat behind her a few months ago at a high end dining spot - she was loud, rude to servers, and according to the chatter left a cr-ppy tip. The eye rolling by the staff "serving" her majesty was a sight.

@af Agree. How in the world anyone, I mean ANYONE, in their right mind could ever think that one person (a CEO) should need to be paid 286 times that of their employee’s salary is beyond me! I mean, just think of that people! Is that person really doing more or bringing 286 times the quality as you or your coworkers?!

And what do you think are the kind of things they spend that on? And to what lengths the waters of corruption to maintain that gets muddy.

@OP you likely have general industry and corporate knowledge and are thinking about what makes sense to grow the company and support members and providers. Now pretend you are a SLT exec who wants to hit a bonus target or up the stock price so they can dump stock. You are going to take actions that will get you that quick hit before year end. You likely have told shareholders you’ll meet some goal. It is September so the clock is ticking on implementing something to achieve that. Clients might be dropping, so what is left? Cut employee benefits or RIF a bunch of people or both. Pretend that magic AI will step in and pick up the slack. To make it make sense you have to put yourself in their Pradas or Blaniks and think like them. You might have payments on a beach house or want to buy a new sports car. By the time this house of cards comes tumbling down they will have cashed out and/or taken a golden parachute. You need to have the same self centered mindset. Get whatever training you can, pad your resume, self promote, network and be ready for the RIF.

Could be related to the fact that the CEO to median worker compensation is now 286:1. Your raises and bonuses decline, while the stock price is all that matters to the ones getting stock grants.
