Is it just me or are corporate and the shareholders launching a massive psychological warfare campaign against all of us? Think about it...They have put some odd 60k of us and our families on notice. On notice to find another job. On notice to cancel our summer family vacations. On notice to cancel any upcoming major purchases. On notice to cancel any summer moves out of the area while the kids are out of school. Etc...
Now we don't know how many of us will be laid off either voluntarily or involuntarily because they won't tell us that either. But, for the sake of argument, let's say that it will be 10k people total. That means that the other 50k people who will be left after the carnage on September 1st had all of their summer plans and purchases ruined for no reason at all. This is not to even mention the level of undue terrifying mental duress, financial problems, and family trouble this will cause for 50k people that had nothing to do with this layoff in the first place. And guess what? They aren't even going to tell us whether we are the ones that are "safe" or the ones on the chopping block until the first week of August.
I think we all need to start consulting with attorneys.

@ef ok Sarah, we'll see what the forensic accountants say about that
@ef ok thanks Sarah and her minions.
Nothing that Centene has done is in anyway illegal.
@e5 please let us know because I am definitely interested in joining forces and take this down. I bet a lot of people want to do this as well.
@e0 That's an excellent question. I'm going to call Teamsters today and start seeing what can be done. I will reply here and also create a new post to try to coordinate with everyone once I have more information.
So how serious are we trying to team up together and take this down? A serious question
My bet is this won’t be over after September 1st. They’re projecting out to 2028 on cost reductions so I’m imaging September 1st will just be the first wave and they will continue with wave after wave until they meet that 2028 projection which will probably be sometime in 2027 I’d imagine.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Seems like no one wants to set up a meeting outside of working hours
I’m here to tell you, they don’t care. Big corporations only care about one thing. MONEY. they do not care about employees personal lives one bit.
I just closed on my first house 2 weeks ago. I haven’t been here long enough to qualify for VSP either. Thankfully I do have 6 months savings, but as the sole provider for my family I absolutely do not want to drain my savings if I am let go.
What a nightmare.
@a5 same situation with me. 10+ years. I dont believe that annual reviews or any other factor will be part of their decision. I think the only factor is what you are costing them. People who have been here that long are making more money. They will cut them off, to only hire new people at less cost (and in a very short time period). I have seen this tactic here several times. Shameful
@a4 thats the point im been saying say you choose to bet on yourself and want to stay and still get clipped in Aug. You lose the extra things offered. Like you said what if you get decline for VSP and then they get you in the other layoff wave. Some cheeky BS if that happens. Me personally I've been here 10 + years and Im ready to see what else is out there. And whatever any of you choose good luck and always be ready for anything.
@OP 100%. Now let's figure out how this is ok.
I looked over the VSP, not in detail so I might have missed some things, however, these are my questions:
what happens to your sick/accrued PTO? Did not notice any mention of this.
lets say that you do not "apply" for VSP, why arent they mentioning what the severance will be if they pick you to be layed off in August or perhaps the second round of layoffs which i suspect will be later on once they get their bearings after the first layoff.
- Now lets say you "apply" for VSP, but they decline, only to later lay you off in August (as their numbers haven't been met". Doesnt seem very ethical as now they dont have to give you the additional benefit of VSP and terminate you with just the basic severance. That seems a bit shady, as this could be one of the methods to let people go and have less cost as they will not provide the additional benefit that you originally applied for.
- I know that all states are different, however I think it would be nice if they looked into it and included into individualized offers the information on our ability/inability to file for unemployment.
Seems to me that this entire situation and the way it is handled is only to benefit Centene with absolutely no regard for thousands of people who have gone above and beyond in their jobs. I know that this is the state of the current corporate world, but there must be something that can be done to stand up to these bullies. I wonder if the legal department has anyone who also got the VSP and might have some ideas :)
Yes! Let's contact Teamsters to check our options.
So why not someone send a meeting invite outside of working hours. We use our personal laptop for a meeting
It’s almost like unionizing would be very helpful, but that is next to impossible to pull off remote on devices packed with corporate spyware.
