Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

I don't get the whole "AI is replacing us" narrative

Have the people pushing this ever actually used AI for anything real? Yeah, you can automate some boring stuff, but you could do that with regular code, and you wouldn't have to babysit it. Plus, AI doesn't create anything new. It never will. Once we're gone, who's left to train it? Game over. Makes zero sense to me.

NetApp devs currently use AI to help code.

Everything in this restructuring, including the new exec hires, point to streamlining and documenting workflows in order to replace people with AI.

@OP Which world are you in? Unless you are the cook in the netapp cafe,
programmers, developers, support, doc (IE) name any - AI is replacing these professions. What is there you don't get. Have you tried claude, copilot or chatGPT, It is will AI replace us, it is how soon and how much?

I guess you're not in Support? or Doc? or Training? AI is a support vector now. Who didn't get hired to handle cases now that A/I is automating those? Doc writers... do they exist anymore? How many have been layed off would you guess? Last one I could find to fix a mistake was apologizing because he was being layed off and cleaning up his inbox and didn't have someone to refer me to. Both of my long time Training developer friends were rounded and bounced back in the 2025 round. Maybe they won't come for your job, but it's naive to think they haven't or won't come for some of them, and probably as many as they can replace, economically.
