STD and laid off

Been on std for 2 months got called on my personal phone and laid off. How is this possible?

@am There is not a single company in the world where HR works for the employee. Grow up. HR is to ensure the company is in compliance with HR laws. I'll be happy if every HR person (starting with Horsie Deanne) gets the boot.

This has nothing to do with performance. This company is run by unqualified, power-drunk senior managers and directors with zero professionalism and zero emotional stability. They’re aggressive, disrespectful, and completely unfit to lead anyone. If they like you, you stay. If they don’t, they’ll fabricate a reason to fire you even while you’re on STD.
HR is a joke. They exist to cover for toxic leadership, not protect employees.
Nothing changes here until they purge the poisonous senior managers destroying this place

I know someone that this happened to during the 2023 layoff. They definitely don’t care.

Because they can eliminate your job regardless of you being on leave. For layoffs they aren’t technically firing you they are eliminating your position. That’s why you get severance
