To all the wireline folks ...what year was it, or when was the last time you had a manager that had a background in telecom?

@bg fiber is included with wireline. Your cell phone can't work without it.
The last time I had a manager with a (weak) telecom background was like 2016.
@bg myself and all the techs I know work on legacy systems as well as new fios and backhaul systems. Phone switches and copper are being removed just at a snails pace.
A non-telecom background extends beyond landline hiring, and goes right up and through the C suite. There's very few Seidenberg's left nowadays.
@OP I think what you meant to ask is "when was the last time they hired a manager that wasn't off the street and actually had a background in any of the services that Verizon provides"? You have to know that they're not interested in knowledge in wireline. Just shuffle the papers and look busy. Useless virtual meetings equals the modern version of the paper shuffle.
Telecom, if you are speaking about older voice and other legacy technologies, is technically a drag on the company. Phone switches cost more to maintain than they make. Lower level TDM costs more to maintain than it makes now too.
So waxing about "telecom experience" misses the mark. Verizon makes money by being able to move massive amounts of data from one place to another. It's networks, and then handful of services we see off those networks (mobility, FIOS, FWA) that actually make money. Now I am sure that there are plenty of field jobs that have to go out and work on copper, legacy voice systems, and other older equipment. And I am sure it would be beneficial to have a leader that has experience in that; However, that would be a luxury when you look at the broader focus and areas of revenue this company is, and has been moving towards.
