What’s with the rumours of upcoming announcements on either Sept 29 or Oct 1? The amount of layoffs, sell off, rumours is nuts.

IOL just post 2 student positions in Calgary on website. If Calgary office is no longer exist, why still hiring?
@18x PIP’s are a joke half the time when flooded with them. They do it so they don’t have to give raises if you get one and then can swing you the next year now they are not on the one bucket move a year of the yearly rank!

@18x some have already been fired without warning. I personally know two individuals that were let go

@ah 100% the last five years have been a case study in 1) how to decimate a good company by offshoring, and 2) how to conduct psychological warfare to see how much good people can take before they crack.

@160 There is some validity to it. The campus has been on the docket for quite some time. Best guess is something similar to Europe and Australia - moving folks out to the operating sites. No need for a huge campus that sits mostly vacant, redundancy not needed (tough pill to swallow), although still a need for a regional presence. Seems unclear where the regional presence will sit (DT Calgary or maybe Edmonton).
@OP - something in the air at IOL. Heard multiple people are on PIP’s from NSI and NI… lots in the retirement area! That’s the rumour!

Hearing that a building downtown Calgary has been selected and interior fit out is underway.
Hearing that all relocations within IOL have been put on hold. September 29 is the big day
Hearing chatter that Sunoco wouldn’t be done getting back into refining in Northern US or Canada.

@ah while I would generally agree with you, it is pretty evident that there is a significant change coming to Calgary. But it does still stand that there is nothing we can do about it.
CNRL to acquire IOL for Kearl and Syncrude share, Suncor to acquire CNRL for Horizon, ExxonMobil to acquire Suncor and fire Rich Kruger again, Canadian Feds to nationalize the oil sands and push endless "nation building" energy efficiency improvement projects, and USA to invade Canada because Trump needs another distraction
Layoffs, sell offs and rumors have been the theme of the past ~ 5 years. Don't waste your energy worrying about something out of your control.
