@1ca Q1 of 2025 one of the largest layoff groups in TFS clinical research arm came after Q! Town Hall where the CEO boasted about gains, exceeding expectations, etc., etc. If anyone is till in TFS look up that Town Hall recording. It's mind boggling.

@gm Hiring is starting to move again, just not inside the big CROs. Smaller niche CROs, biotechs, and device companies are posting roles and moving candidates through faster. The shift is real. The pain is coming from the large CRO model. They are slow, layered, and unable to pivot when budgets tighten.

People inside Parexel have said the quiet cuts have been happening there too. You can see it in the way they post jobs for “future opportunities” and then close them without a hire. Thermo Fisher has done the same all year. It is a numbers game for the big players.

The long-term risk sits with the large CROs. The short-term loss hits qualified people who spent years in that system. Keep looking in places that are growing, not shrinking. Smaller teams are hiring because they need hands, not headcount optics.

You are not doomed. You need to stop aiming at the same few giant companies and start targeting the parts of the industry that are still building.

@16c Thermo Fisher announced the OpenAI partnership without showing any real productivity lift on the ground. Anyone who lived through the integration knows the systems were already slow and overloaded. Cutting staff while banking on a tool that is not producing value yet will hit quality fast. Leadership knows that, they just choose to move anyway.

@24d I have posted on a Thermo F thread also today . PPD - More layoffs Q2 outside US within CRG FSP study delivery, PVG, CDM and others only just heard about the scale . My line manager and several others have been released, long serving experienced people. It seems that PPD people focus has been eaten up for the $

@24d PPD stands for Post Payday Disorder. It is a dept within TFS that study the mood disorder affecting individuals when they are broke.

@1ca I’m telling you it’s coming especially on the PASD side TFS expects way more revenue than PPD is making there’s overlap in PPD they will start consolidating

@13a corporate means anyone who doesn’t bring in money like marketing, HR, finance, facilities. Unfortunately I think everyone is at risk across PPD.

What do you mean how many? Over the last 2 years there’s been at least 3 major rounds of layoffs with multiple mini layoffs in between. December/January is a big time for layoffs unfortunately across all industries, definitely expect more to come just to cut overhead costs.

The OpenAI partnership has yielded 0 productivity gains and won't move the needle for at least a year, if ever. If there are layoffs it's 100% going to impact quality of services and products, if leadership chooses to make such drastic cuts they're aware but don't care

Are the layoffs because of the announcement of OpenAI?

I don’t have any intel. But clinical research funding does not look good for the next 3+ yrs. My gut tells me they are just pausing layoffs to further assess. Look to see how busy everyone is near your circle. If you live in the US or another more expensive country and over 45 yrs old, you are probably doomed. And way too many US based Directors with not enough to do.
