This place is toxic

I don't understand how they can get rid of people who have given their everything to UP so easily... Everybody here works so hard - and then they walk all over us and dismiss us like we never existed - while the company is doing great!!! How is that... — read more

Less trains, less yards workers, less business

The only positive impacts of these changes will be visible short term, due to cost cutting produced by layoff. Trains are sitting as we speak, with less yard workers how can we expect the process no to be slower. The decline of business will be... — read more

Pay Rate

Hi, this may be off topic, but I cannot seem to find the union contract with pay rates for UP train crew. I was interviewed today and I was told to expect furloughs. I’m not crazy about the idea, but I need the job. All UP says is new TC employees... — read more

Everyday we go to work scared.

Us young guys wonder....when are we going to get cut. We look at the roster daily and continue to assume someone is going to come back from medical leave. In turn the low man gets furloughed. Or a foreman or foremen job gets abolished. So they return... — read more

Directors

The "band B and C" folks keep getting fired and now my director only has 2 people reporting to the position. Why do we need so many directors and AVP's?

Pumped!

Hey ya'll! Had a productive day today brothers and sisters! Got power out in the nick of time for a Z train and it felt really good! It almost turned into a disaster but I put my skills to use and really knocked it outta the park today. I could tell... — read more

Why is UP stock falling

Just curious why is stock falling? Is it because our rails are grid locked with junk locos and BNSF is taking our customers?

Does everybody else’s director go on vacation every single time the axe comes down?....Or is that just mine?

It’s such a funny coincidence that every single time they are making a cut, our director goes on vacation! Hopefully it’s because he’s wallowing in guilt, since we all know they sent him to our shop to dismantle it slowly, waaaaaaay before they... — read more

Any rumors on what yards could be closed next?

Starting to get worried with all the closures. Any rumors on future yard closings, and is there any signs that were there before the shut down, that we can see to anticipate an actual yard closure?

North Platte not enough foreman

They call 2-3 extra jobs per shift and can't fill the jobs. Look for borrow outs soon. Not enough foreman so they force people to cover. The switchman's extra board is getting thin. No layoffs in sight. Vena where you at.

15 million a day ain’t good enough

Last year the Union Pacific averaged 15 million a day in profits. I’m amazed this ain’t good enough. Stupid fritz is borrowing money to shore up the stock price for him and the shareholders. They are gutting the company

We seem to be getting used to this state where layoffs are an everyday occurrence, even more we seem happy that they are performed in that way and not in another massive wave. My take is that there will be another massive wave of layoffs at the... — read more

How many employees retire happy from UP?

Even if this was true, all the new blood that have been working the horrible shifts will continue working the horrible shifts until they have 15-20 years in. And then when UP decides to act on some new initiative years from now they will have to bump... — read more

How many Yard workers were impacted by layoffs?

It looks to me that wit reductions and yard closures these folks were hit hard. I understand this number is hard to determine bud does anyone have at least some idea on how many yard employees were affected up to this point?

Would you really go back to UP?

I see people wondering if any of the laid off employees will be returned to work at any point, and I gotta ask - why would you want to? UP has proven to be a horrible place to work - no job security, horrible working environment, no way to get... — read more
