Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The company does something and then thinks of how they are going to accomplish it

There are plenty of Things that s--- here. Job security, all the ever changing procedures to nail the workers with some kind of b---s--- to save the company a buck. Management is horrible, if you get a good local manager it doesn't matter because his hands are tied by higher management. The company does something and then thinks of how they are going to accomplish it. Example buying time Warner and then trying to figure out how to pay for it. My manager can't even order me a drill bit because there is some way to get around it. Instead of buying a $10 dollar bit, the company would rather pay me 40 bucks to drive to another techs job and borrow a bit. With all that said, every job has its problems but for the pay this is a great job.

Even though this post from @YZf4b2g-2zva is originally related to another thread, it states the truth about how things are conducted at T, in general.

exactly! managers all the way up to SVP, have no power. they are yes men. their work is composed of the "fire drill of the day". they spend their time having all the pee-ons, pulling reports for them. they look at the reports, ask their chronies for input, then put the work back down the hill. all managers are forced to only promote their one or 2 best reports. no manager could possibly have a great team, full of qualified individuals. managers cannot fire anyone. if they fire someone, then that means they didn't need the slot in the first place. there is no such thing as back-filling a position. there is zero benefit from firing someone. there is no such thing as promotions. well, i take that back, you might get a promotion, but the salary is NOT coming with it. if you want a promotion, you have to find another job. if your manager is located in another area/state, then you are really screwed, when it comes to bonus/salary. he is going to take care of the folks, that he has to look at, on a day to day basis. i could go on-and-on. i have to stop

Uverse uses a Microsoft built platform, which I'm sure we pay handsomely for (licensing, support, etc). Besides trying to get away from that cost model, I'm sure it would have cost an additional fortune to have Microsoft extend the service to support DirecTV Now (initial, beta, go-live, ongoing). What I'd really like to know, is what is going to happen between DirecTV Now and the new Warner streaming platform. Are we competing amongst ourselves now? Are we going to have multiple non-coherent streaming platforms?

Isn't this what management does best? start a new project when a project is on track to failure? shuffle their leadershit Teams and start their BS all over again? the joke is on you, the ones that need to ask these questions, lol

"Can anyone explain why DirecTV Now was built when we had an existing streaming service with U-verse that could’ve worked fine if there was some investment? Certainly cheaper than building an entirely new infrastructure."

I'll say this again. I'll go to work and I will "steal" from the "rightful" owners of my labor. Those "rightful" owners are the shareholders and C-Suite executives.

Well, I'm getting what's mine from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and giving nothing more.
